    Philips 42PF7320A/37 7 Blinks (Chassis BP2.3U AA Serial YA1A)

    This is a plasma TV.

Getting green LED when plugged in, then shuts down and gives 7 red blinks.

First I disconnected the each of the Y, Z and buffer boards with no change.

After some research I found most people pointing towards two 3300uF 10V caps on the PS board. They were not bulged, but I pulled them and they checked good for ESR and capacitance.

    Anyone ran into this one?

Looks like the 8V6 is missing on the PS, the service manual does not have PS schematic, it's a:
    Part Number: LJ44-00101B
    Philips 996500032630
    Substitute Parts: 996500033880
    LJ44-00101C
    Anyone have one?

How many times green LED blinking in power supply?

I had a bad audio board (small board on the upper-right side of the TV when looking at the back) in a similar set. I started with the power supply, but I finally found the fault by disconnecting boards from circuit to see if one of them would cause the 7 blinks to go away. Sure enough, the audio board was the culprit.

Edit: When I disconnected the audio board, I got a picture and no sound.

Edit 2: Kevin, I just e-mailed you some repair info on the power supply, although it's likely you don't have a power supply issue.

I did disconnect that board first, aswell as all the other boards too. I was hoping it was the audio board. Im missing the 8V6 supply on the PS board and that is causing the 7 blinks. I will double check by disconnecting everything from the PS again and checking for the 8V6

I forgot that the power supply for my TV is slightly different from yours. I saw your e-mail response. Hopefully, that info will help you out.

Kevin, check for open R8012 (6.8ohm 7w) located near relays on power supply board

Good call Ron, R8012 is good but R8013 is open, same resistor. Thanks!

For future reference the 2 caps that other people found to also cause this problem are C8059 and C8060 (3300uF 10V), in my case they were good. I will report results when I replace the resistor.

The resistors burned out after install, I removed one of the heatsinks and found Q8001 and D8004 to be shorted. There is a U8002 as shown in pic that is low ohms between pins, is that supposed to be low ohms if a thermal protection?

Well I replaced the 2 resistors again + the shorted Q8001 ande D8004. The TV clicked for a second then went off. Unfortunately no schematic for this one either. After checking, the diode and transistor shorted again, aswell as main fuse.

This led me to considering getting a Variac. How come the Variac's don't have built in ammeters? What do you all use, is there a simple setup?

My 60W lightbulb would not start this PS it just clicks on and shuts down. I would like to use something with better control.

Anyone? What is an alternative to using the light bulb to limit AC current? I just fried a $13 IC, since this a plasma with a big PS I would think I need something more heavy duty right?

Kevin, using a 60 watt light bulb generally does the trick for me on limiting current,I'm uploading the Training guide for your chassis and will send Tom66 the service manual for upload to his service manual link, also FYI for a Variac I use the Sencore PR570 Powerrite2

Well found a cheap PS board, TV now comes on and stays on. However, no pic except for a few sparklies on top of screen which looks to be a bar where "Input" or "No Signal" would be.

All voltages from PS adjusted and good. Wonder if this has a bad IPM even though it's not blowing fuse?

Notice there are 4 adj. pots on the Y-Sus, there is a good chance someone was already inside this TV, what are they for?

Here's a shot when hitting "menu" button. Could not seem to get it on a HDMI input without seeing it.

After playing with adjustments I can barely make out "Channel not available" in the speckled bar on the top of screen.

Anyone know if this could be a Y/Z-Sus problem, or a logic board? A firmware would not cause something this severe could it?

Like I said you can barely make out what is supposed to be on the menu/OSD.

Also Y-SUS IPM not showing a short, would a shorted transistor cause this and not cause a blown fuse or short a buffer?

                                        Hello kevinm34232 ~

I know it's been a while since you posted this thread (2 1/2 years ), but I am wondering if you are saying here at the end in Post #19 that replacing the PS board and the Main Logic Control Board actually fixed your set?

If so, is it still up and running? I have a very similar problem with my Philips 50PF7220A/37 and am hoping we can connect.

Thanks in advance for any reply / advice you might be able to provide.

                                        ~ kca
