    Simple Remote Control Test

    Hi

Just wanted to share this with those that dont know, and sorry if this has been shown here before

A quick simple test for a remote control you think may be faulty is to put new/known good batteries in, then get your digital/phone camera out and look at the IR sensor through the lense of your digital/phone camera, your camera can pick up infa-red and you will see the light illuminating, giving you a good idea that its working

Yep, have used this a lot.

Another nice trick is using an AM radio set to an empty band. Place it near the remote control and you should hear pulses.

Another great one to take on board, better than buying a remote tester that just gives a bleep

Not knowing in depth how a remote works, would the pulse be different for each button, or would it be a case of we wouldnt hear the difference?

You may be able to hear a slight difference but don't expect much.

I always used AM radio as Tom, when press any key, you should hear noices from the radio. If not, then your remote is not functional, may need to check battery, or clean/repair.

Another reason not to get an iPhone then. It works on every other cell phone camera I have used (HTC One, various blackberry phones)

Super nice of you. It's the nicest phone I've ever owned. Maybe you should talk bad about my kids too. I mean, your life is obviously so much better than mine.

I personnally use a cheap digital camera to check the IR output. This does not mean the remote is fully functional, it just means it is delivering an IR signal to the set. I had a situation where the IR output was OK and bright but the remote still failing to control the set. Probably a problem in the remote circuit (wrong coding ??).

This is a stupid thing to fight over.

The iPhone has uses, like any smartphone, but I don't own any smartphone. I've never liked the sacrifices in ruggedness (most smartphones would shatter into pieces if dropped) or battery life (a day if you're lucky.)

Who cares what anyone else uses. If it makes them happy, it makes them happy.
