Was watching tv last night and picture went out, I have sound but no vizio logo luminated on the bottom of tv. Took the back panel off, and all I found is one bad cap 680uf 25v on the sus board. Will just that cause the problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Vizio vp50 hdtv20a no pic just sound
Your problem seems similar to the tv I just fixed. I replaced the same cap that was on the Ysus board but the real problem was a burnt buffer chip on the upper board. Try to look closely at these for a small burned hole on top and/or unplug the tv and wait a few minutes, then take the buffer boards out to test them for a short. There is a video on YouTube on how to test for shorted buffers. -
Re: Vizio vp50 hdtv20a no pic just sound
A bad cap is not a common cause of "no picture" failure on these TVs. The IPMs under the large heat sinks tend to fail. Also, there could be other damage. Do you have any pics?Comment

This is one of the boards with a bad cap note the screw driver it is a 680uf 25v already removed also the post won't let me attach more than one pic at a time. Sorry for all the added post.Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: Vizio vp50 hdtv20a no pic just sound
Ok, I thought your vp50 was the version that has LG components, but it's got Samsung components instead. So, there are no IPMs - that's a good thing. How do your buffer chips look? Any burns or holes? You'll have to examine them closely, as the holes could be the size of a pin.
BTW, you should be able to click "Go Advanced" then "Manage Attachments" to upload your pics to a single post.Last edited by capkid; 04-28-2013, 12:49 AM.Comment

Re: Vizio vp50 hdtv20a no pic just sound
I tried that and it would only save one pic at a time. Don't know if its because I'm using my I pad. The chips look good I can't find any burnt spots or holes in any of them. Just the bad caps so far on the y and x boardsComment

Ok. Are any of the fuses blown on the X-main or Y-main?Comment

Re: Vizio vp50 hdtv20a no pic just sound
Ok. The next thing I'd do is check the voltage outputs on the power supply to make sure they're within spec. Specifically, since everything is working but the pic in your case, I'd check the VS and VA output. You'll need to disconnect the Y-main and X-main from the power supply to (1) avoid doing further damage to them and (2) to isolate the power supply.
VS and VA voltage reqs. should be listed on the panel.Last edited by capkid; 04-28-2013, 01:21 AM.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!!
what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!
i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...-

by ggil44Hi I inherited a Vizio M65-E0 that isn't working. It must have been dropped on the corner because I found that the infrared circuit had a capacitor with one end broken off of the board and some green corrosion around the plug to the main board. I re-soldered the capacitor and cleaned the corrosion well and tried turning the M65-E0 on and I was successful. My problem is that while the back lights come on and appear to perform local dimming there is no picture or sound. It kind of looks like you are looking at the TV through a very dense fog, where changing the input on the remote will change bright...

by LEECH666Good day ladies and gentleman!
I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.
This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).
I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but... -
