    Element TV Proview board problem

I'm new to the site and new to electronics repair in general. I picked up an element tv that would power on but the screen wouldn't turn on. I replaced the two 10uf450V caps on the proview board. The screen now turns on and I can play with the menu. My question is as soon as I plug the tv in I get a whistling sound. Also when you touch the top (opposite of the lead side) you get an electrical shock. Is that normal? Any Idea what the whine noise is? Any help would be great.

Touch the top of what?? - Quite dangerous touching anything inside a TV of you dont know what you are doing!!
Whining whistling screeching could be capacitors -or lamps- try and establish where the sound comes from and turn down the brightness - see if that helps.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Why did you replace the 2 450v caps? Were they blown / domed? Did you replace with caps for 450v or higher? Are any of the other capacitors on the power board leaking, or bulging, or domed?

Often a whistle noise comes out of capacitors that have blown / and are leaking. As selldoor said, try adjusting the brightness and see if the noise changes and try to tell where its comming from.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

@selldoor...I knew what i was touching. I'm not an expert in electronics but i knew there should not be electricity on the top of the cap (part that domes when bad). I guess i should have phrased it differently.

@cash I replaced the 2 caps (with the same size but panasonic brand) because they had a slightly domed. I do not see any others leaking. T?he tv works now just a faint whistle noise.

I re-soldered the new caps in and the electricity is no longer felt on top of the 2 replaced caps. still have a very faint whistle.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Sony KDL-40Z4500 LCD with stripes and 9 blinks (possible BGC board or harness problem
          by huj3r
          Hi there!

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4500 which shows a colored vertical stripes pattern when turning on, with a central black shadow that slowly dissipates within the first 10 seconds.

Photo of the situation after the black shadow dissipates:

After this behavior the red LED will blink 9 times, then pause for a bit, and blink again 9 times, in a loop.

I checked the manual (available here) and this corresponds to "HFR error", quoting from the manual:

          > This indicates HFR Communication error. [ HFR Communication...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

          Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

          Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
          by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board
          CN6401
          Pin 01 NC
          Pin 02 NC
          Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V
          Pin 04 "N/C"
          Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V
          Pin 06 "GND": N/C
          Pin 07 "AC_OFF"...
