    Vizio M190VA 19" LCD

A friend of my dad wanted me to check out his tv that he picked up somewhere (probably a yard sale or the dump). My experience is pretty much limited to changing out bad caps. I've probably done about 20 or so just for friends. I don't charge any money since I like tinkering and I may need a favor some time. I don't know how I've never found this site before.

Ok so on to the tv..........

Upon first inspection, I noticed that a screw was missing out of the back so someone has probably already penetrated the neutral zone on the tv.

I did notice that this piece of equipment looks to have gotten toasty. Any opinions on this? I don't see any obvious cap leakage or bulging anywhere else. This is the only abnormality that I've seen. Is there an easy way to test it?

It is a transformer - they normally run hot. Difficult to test without proper equipment
Are all the fuses in place - if blown do not just replace- could cause more damage.
If it turns on tell us what it does from turn on the stable fault - noises
flashes- what does the power led do? Any sound(audio)
We can help a lot more if you please post good clear pictures of the whole chassis, and then pictures of each board, front and back (in the same orientation) and close up of connectors, (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) using the manage attachments button, which is found by clicking "go advanced" under quick reply.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Man I hope I'm doing this right. These pics probably suck but I can't get my good camera for a couple of days. The tv does nothing, no sound, no lights or anything. The 13 pin connector on the psu reads the correct voltage on my dmm. The two 3-pin connectors above it say '42.9v' but both only read 17v each.

I do have a spare 23" monitor I can give him if I can't get it fixed. I just thought that I would like to learn more than just looking for obviously bad capacitors and changing them out. I don't want to waste anyone's time due to the fact that I'm probably posting inferior pictures so no worries if I don't get it.

This monitor has LEDs for backlights so those two connectors with 49v labels are for the LED backlights. What do you have at the 5.2V pin, that voltage is for running the main board. And also check the 16V pins.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

          Vizio M65-C1
          by mrtek
          Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel
          by howardc64
          Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

          Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
          by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
