Vizio VL470M main board or panel problem?

    Hello,

This Vizio VL470M powers up, backlights come on and there is sound and a compressed picture (about 1/2" high) at the top of the panel with an hdmi input. The rest of the screen is grayish and does not appear to have any physical damage.
Power supply capacitors look fine and they are high quality. I checked the 1117 regulators on the main board and they also are correct voltage wise.
    Fuses are good.
There does not seem to be a tcon board. Two ribbon cables go directly from the main board to the panel.
    Main board is 3647-0252-0150(6C)
Panel is LC470WUH Suzhou Raken Technology Ltd.
Heating the main board and the top and sides of the panel do not improve anything.

My best guess is that the panel is bad but I'll defer to the experts.
So the question is: Main board or panel?
    Thanks

Well, I've never heard of "Suzhou Raken Technology", but it appears to be a joint venture between LG Display & AmTRAN (who make most Vizio TVs.)

It's most likely panel. If you feed in video, can you see a small slit of it on that top bit?

Yes, when I plug an hdmi cable into the set I have both sound and a tiny sliver of video at the top. Never fills the screen.

I'd say panel, possibly tab bonding issue.

I forgot to mention that I removed, cleaned and reseated the ribbon cables both at the panel side and main board side.
It's a real shame that the television is manufactured so poorly!

It would be possible to repair the LCD panel in this instance, potentially.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how you would attempt to repair the panel.
I have another Vizio that I'm pretty sure also has a bonding issue.

I had to use a hair dryer and heat the tab bonds first before I could get any results when pushing on them, press firmly. here's my thread link.

I can't start my own thread because I'm new. However I am having a very similar problem with a Vizio VL470M. This Vizio powers up, backlights come on I have not been able to get any sound. There is a blue stripe approx 2 inches across the top and the rest of the screen is gray with faint vertical lines. I removed and inspected the power board and main board and both look fine. No bulging capacitors or burnt spots. I checked the tabs on the panel & they all seem fine as well. They all were hot to touch and when applied pressure there was no change in the screen. Not sure if I should give up and write it off as a bad panel or could it be a bad board? Thanks for any help!

Does this match the problem you guys were seeing here?
This is how it looks when I turn the tv on.

When I reseat the ribbon cables I get half a screen.
Does that sync with it being a posible bonding issue?

The right side of the panel has problem with the driver ICs on the flexible PCB, not tab bonding problem.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:

Issue: No Power, Then Rebooting After Main Board Change

Short answer: replace main board and power board
Technical answer: replace main board and Q306 & Q307 on power board.

TV turns on now but randomly reboots. Bad main board? EEPROM? Tried to pull main board and got a shock touching the corner of the board. That's weird. C334 (450V 10uf) capacitor is still holding a high charge....
