Well, I obtained a 42" Polaroid TV which I did not have a chance to look at until yesterday. So I decided to power it and see what happens. It powered up fine and I was abale to scroll through the menu, etc. So it appeared the only problem with it was it had a black vertical line (pixel width) on the right side of the screen.
I took the TV appart so I can get access to the ribbon cables on the LCD. My hope was that it was a bad connection. So after taking it all apart down to the LCD and powering it back up, I tapped the ribbon cable and the black line went away. Actually, by tapping the cable, I could make other vertical black lines appear and disapper. Clearly a bad connection of some sort.
In any case, I thought I had "fixed" the TV. But I noticed that eventually the screen went black after 30 seconds or more. The Power light remained on, blue in this case. When the TV is actually off the light is red.
So I was wondering what the initial thoughts are of everyone, regarding the screen going black. I checked the capacitors for any initial signs of bad caps, but they all appeared OK.
