    Panasonic TC-P42X1 - 10 Blink

As the title implies, this one has a 10 blink.

    Symptoms/Trials:
Initially, the power supply does cut on for a short 3 seconds to where the transformers are making an audible buzz/whine - there is 15v present though.
I have replaced the A board (in unknown condition - though should be good) with no change.
With both the SS and SC board disconnected the TV will not display an error code but seems to be "on" (not the power supply though) and will shut off randomly. Can't seem to cut it back on without tripping the 10 blink code again.
With only the SS board connected, the power supply actually does cut on for about 5-7 seconds and I can measure the voltage from the power supply board of what would be for the SC board. It seems to jump to ~186 but then fall to about 150 where the power supply finally cuts off to a 7 blink code.

I am suspecting the power supply but thought I would go for a second opinion with my luck with these Panny's lately.

sounds like a shorted component near the xformer. can you tell which one is whining? i am looking thru my sm collection to see if i have the schematics on it.

on the newer panasonics the 7 blink and shutdown is normal if you unplug the ss or sc boards. i have only limited info on the 10 blink code, all pointing to the a board. here is what i have on it.

10 Blinks SOS: IC5401 generates the SUB9V, IC5607 generates the SUB5V, and IC5480 generates the BT30V. The SUB9V, BT30V, and SUB5V from these ICs are monitored by IC1100. Any abnormality on these voltages (Including the F_STB15V), triggers the shutdown circuit and the MPU shuts down the unit. The power LED blinks 10 times.

        42X2 might be close enough

          Re: Panasonic TC-P42X1 - 10 Blink

I am not by it right now, but I have all the SMs.
I started with the X2 series one but when it told me to unplug the SC and SS board and I didn't get a blink code as I was expecting, so I was a little troubled. The exact one, as awyatt2 mentions, is very limited on 10 blink and does not have any troubleshooting flowchart.
I am mainly leaning towards p/s due to that power drain unless the SS board caused that but not sure.

Well the ten blink seems to be in beginning and not in order lol.
Anyways, the 15v is present which alludes to the A board, but it doesn't convince me.

i just fixed a 50" and the manual was right on the money. i started checking the sc board and found the bad area with a hairdryer, started checking the components in that area and boom 2 caps later she was perfect again. sure my daughter will enjoy her new to her tv.

I am amazed to hear of bad caps on a Panasonic. I would have thought of it as unheard of. But I suppose even good caps fail!

                      Re: Panasonic TC-P42X1 - 10 Blink

after 6 yrs of heat they went 10 uf at 250v and 10 uf@400v esr was 25.0 cold and when heated with a hairdryer they fell to 2.2 ohm and then the set would start. got distracted a while ago, tom, wife was hollering about maytag ref. it was warming up inside. now i have two defrost heaters to replace 54.00. ouch. expensive for two quartz lightbulbs. got it apart and defrosting the core now. it took longer to get the thing apart than it did to fix the panasonic.
hope you got what i sent. lots "o" luck.

Well it does seem to be the main board.
Unfortunately, this main is non-existent in the market right now.
