Take a chance on this one?

Vizio model XVT553SV LED LCD. On craigs list for $300. Owner claims the power supply and main board were replaced by an authorized Vizio repairman.
In the process the picture became "messed up".

    What do you guys think?

No way am I going to pay $300 for the set. It does look like parts are plentiful for the set.

Looks like bad main board config?

Most likely needs a reset -- but that can only be done from the service menu. Do Vizios even have service menus??

I'd go with TOM. Definitely had 1 Plasma with weird stuff like yours although yours is really funky (and I just realised your talking LCD)and got that fully restored via the service menu and reset.

Re: Take a chance on this one?

OK, finally got around to this one. Reset the ribbon cable from the main board to the Tcon, no change.
              Replaced Tcon board, no change.
Changed Power Supply, still no change.
Decided to give the ribbon cable to the Tcon board a little more attention.
Thoroughly cleaned the cable, reseated, and BINGO....Fixed.
I purchased the Tcon, Pwr Supply beforehand, just in case I needed them.
I will be keeping this TV and since it is a Vizio, I'll probably need both these boards in the future.
I paid $150 for the TV (the most I have ever paid for a broken TV) and another $77 for the other two boards.

$300? Nope! Got to leave some meat on the bone if you plan to resell it!

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                  by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                  Assuming...

                  Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

                  Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                  Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
                  by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
