    Re: Panasonic PT-47WX42 Convergence Issues

Do you have access to a scope? You'd need to check if the waveforms going into the driver ICs are bad and if the waveforms coming out are good or bad.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I do have an old 1 channel AC scope (1965 heathkit 1012). The issue is that getting to the chips while the board is installed is a pita (its in the back of the cabinet, right by the blue CRT neck card)). I may give it a try later.

The only thing that i can suggest is check and make sure all the connectors are correctly placed. When i repaired the projection tv in may i goofed and didn't label any of the connectors. That was a big mistake on my part. When we turned the tv on for the first time the colors were WAY off and you couldn't do any convergence adjustments (manual or auto). It took a few minutes of head scratching but i did finally figure it out. I had 2 connectors that needed switched. I do also remember the remote didn't work either until i switched the 2 above connectors.

I'm pretty sure I got the 3 tube control cables right. I'll double check just to be sure.

            Re: Panasonic PT-47WX42 Convergence Issues

I finally was able to check... the cables were in the right order (I traced them to the PSU/HV board and used the PCB marks to verify).

I remeasured all the resistors and checked all of my soldering... Came up with nothing.

Anybody else have any suggestions? (I hope I get replies, threads get buried within hours in this subforum)

Looked for other advice online, I found nothing other than "buy the kit" or "buy the service manual". No actual help.

I'm really thinking it's fucked... the only other possibility that comes to mind is that my chips are bad. They looked slightly different from the old ones... and I did get them on ebay... fakes?

After looking around online, I see people mentioning failed jobs due to fake parts.

Here's the link I bought from:

                http://www.ebay.com/itm/270750562673...84.m1439.l2649

Whose pic matches what I bought:

The ones that came out looked more like this IIRC:

                Fakes?

I'm suspecting I got screwed... if they are indeed fakes, then its a good thing I have yet to give feedback.

The 'real' ones seem to have different 'K's and different '-' than the 'fake' one.

The only way we might be able to tell is the back, the heatsink pad. Copycat parts sometimes look ok, but (just like the fake caps) there is almost always one little detail they missed! (Ok, maybe two, counting the incorrect font!)

Yeah, I think I got %^&*ed by fakes this time. I'll order some known legit ones and try again.

edit- Anybody know where I can get reliable parts from? Newark has NTE ones but they want $15 a pop plus shipping (I had a x% coupon from them, but I may have used it).

edit- found the 15% off code, buying them there.

When you get this working you should carefully cut open the old one with a dremel, and compare that to the insides of the 'fake' one! Would be interesting to see the difference xD

Unless I have to mail them back for refund... oh wait, by the time I get them, I bet my 14 days will be up. I may have to grab my dremel and once again pull a ratdude...

got the new chips, no change.

I'm running out of ideas. I wish I had the schematic but The only places that have it wanna charge $$ for it.

                          Anybody have any other suggestions?

Nope, thats the user's manual. Already have that.

I dunno then -- but have you tried scoping the input to those ICs to see if it's the same as the output?

No... because I can't really get to where I need to go. It's very cramped and a royal pain to try to look at a scope and get my lead on the pin at the same time. It was hell enough trying to check my supply voltages, which were suppossed to be + 18, -18, I got +17.5, -20.1 (the chips is rated up to +38. -38).

If I have that problem, I solder a lead to the relevant part of the board and scope it that way. I suppose the chassis design means it's very hard to get the boards out, though...

nah, its just that the chips are at the back of the cabinet.

I did scope them... nothing. nothing AC, that is. Minus the same amount of ripple I saw on the supply voltages.
