I should of mentioned audio on the DVD doesn’t work at all, you can hear like a static noise.

I have replaced both capacitors, the machine powers up and plays videos but the dvd player audio isn't working. When I dub from VHS to DVD no audio can be heard from the VHS, the disc does record the sound though as I finalized the disc and played in another player. Any ideas?

Appreciate your help, thank you. How about the other part of the board? (the one that looks the worst) Do I need to remove the mask?
Are the brown sections without the solder just the none conductive part of the board?, I think the pad was under the solder so nothing conductive left?
I need to understand how the board works....

Cleaned but it looks a right mess! Lesson learnt! Hopefully I haven’t destroyed the board!...

Thank you, I will use flux next time. I have some on order.
The 2 caps I removed were 680uF 6.3v and 680uF 10v. I have ordered 680uF 10v as a replacement for the 6.3v as I couldn’t see any that were shipped by AliExpress.

Thank you for confirming, just ordered some from AliExpress, and an ESR meter. I have removed 2 of the suspect capacitors. Sorry for the dumb question but the hole where the leg is soldered to the board has small section of brown is that because I have removed too much of the solder? I was worried I may have damaged the board!...

I am struggling to find the 680ufF6.3v on AliExpress, well ones that ship by AliExpress. 680uF 10v don't seem as tricky to find. Sellers in the UK want about 6 times the price for 1!

I can solder, most certainly not an expert but I think I should be able to do this. I will order ESR Tester off AliExpress as I think they will be cheaper than Amazon.
I am no rush to get this fixed, will be nice to get it up and running and hopefully I will be able to repair some other faulty units.

Again thanks for the info. Just one more question, can you get capacitor kits on somewhere like AliExpress that cover the ranges I need? I have another Panasonic that will need new caps, thought a kit would be a cheaper way of going about it!

Thank you. How can I make sure there is no voltage left on the board before I start removing it? Am I correct in thinking you can get an electric shock when working on PSU's?
Also the board seems to be connected to the board on the VCR side, bridged with brittle looking connectors! How do I separate the boards?

Panasonic DMR-ES30V power issues
I picked up a Panasonic DMR-ES30V (UK). When I first plugged in there was nothing, appeared completely dead, I then turned it on and off a couple of times at the mains supply and it came on. It accepts a cassette but then spits it out straight away, the DVD drive functions sometimes but then the unit turns off with nothing on the display. I took the back off and noticed the fan does not spin. The display for the DVD side does seem a little dim when it is working.
I have looked on google and people say it is most likely a capacitor/s.
Just looking for some advice on which...2 PhotosLast edited by newgen2005; 09-26-2024, 03:54 AM.

Hi everyone,
I am located in Guernsey, Channel Islands.
I'm interested in VHS, DVD players and recorders. I also have a large collection of Laseridiscs and a about 4 players, and quite a few VHS tapes.I also have Betamax machine and a couple of tapes.
I am always on the look out for this type of equipment, sadly it rarely comes along on this small island.
Cheers!
