    T-Con or panel?

Hello all, i am new here. I just had a tv given to me, The guy said he didnt want it any more. That it wasnt working right. the model is a (LG 47LW5600) anyways. He said it just started having vertical lines in the screen and didnt feel like dealing with it any more. So i took it home and hooked it up, and sure enough it was veritcal lines, and half the screen completely black. So my question is....would it be the t-con or the panel? I ordered a t-con from shopjimmy...i figured $50 is so bad for a possible fix...i found a replacement panel for $670....dont really wanna go that route...anyways...ill throw in a couple pictures in here and get your opinions...thanks guys Also, the area of the t-con in the pic, there is a buzzing sound coming from. Is this normal?

As its only half the screen showing it might not be panel, not wanting to give you high hopes so i will leave it to the guys in the know, just posting to show we are listening.

Well i figured it could be the tcon because 1 the buzzing, and 2, when i unplugged the ribbon cables from the tcon going to the display, and plugged them back in the rest of the screen lights up with rainbow colors.

If they haven't shipped it yet then the order can be cancelled. Will you post a picture of the panel with the metal suround removed?

Has anything been spilt down it?

Time to get the wd40 and toothbrush out.

Well, the goo, i tried to get a picture of but couldn't....Like i said earlier, it was just like a dark colored sticky goo...almost liked dried up soda or something....i guess it was the innerds of the panel...im not sure lol. And my dumb self tried to pick the thing up and cracked the panel...so imma throw the main board, and the power supply on ebay and be done with it

Hi guys. I found this place by searching for answers to a similar problem the OP had. Just curious if this issue would be the board or the display?

The lines on this one are down the center. Same model, LG 47LW5600.

I have no idea what was done to it before I received it. It was given to me a couple of days ago, so just trying to figure out if it's worth fixing or not.

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
                          by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                          by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
                          by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...

Amazon Fire TV Omni K24NE5 tcon or panel bad?
                          by Lee M.
TV came on with BL on but blank screen. Disconnected one of the ribbon cables from tcon to panel driver board and now I have half of the screen working normally. Any way to tell if the problem is with the tcon or the panel driver board or the panel itself? Should I just replace the tcon and see what happens?

Sony KD-65x8500b - bad Tcon or panel?
                          by rimwall
Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
                          a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
                          b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...
