yes..i have cable tv hooked up to the uhf port...but when i hook an antenna to the dtv port there is no option to scan for channels

Sorry for digging this thread and this thread looks old.

My friend ask me if I could help him to repair his LCD TV because he know I am an electronic hobbyist, but I don't have any experience, so I would like ask for help. I don't want to make a new thread because my friend just said the TV make and it was Olevia likes this thread and he don't describe the model, nobody would see my new thread if no model number.

He said that someday his son playing the remote and suddenly the tv didn't have a sound and no colour (just black and white). everything fine, just the colour and no sound. From this I think the problem could be fix by factory reset but I am afraid will makes it worse.
Any ideas? how to enter this TV factory reset and try to not affecting others setting?

I dont follow this - you should have started your own thread- we still dont know the model. Are you working on it or just relaying the information to your friend?

I am not working on it for now, he just give me information and ask me If I can help him. I want to know the logical culprit for this problem because you all profesional technician maybe ever face this problem before . is this because factory setting has been modified or is this related to hardware failure ?

If this because factory setting, this tv would be fixed and I could makes some effort to find the answer. If the problem related to hardware, maybe I am not capable to do this job because from I learn from reading book and site about colour and sound problem that is related to mainboard or t-con (colour/line) problem? any help would be very appreciated and thank you

Ok - so there will be a delay between each suggestion and the reply.

Has he tried the obvious things.
Is the aerial plugged in.
Tried other inputs dvd - pc
Checked to see if the mute button is stuck on the remote.
Checked the volume down button is not stuck on the remote.
Removed the battery from the remote then tried it again.
Tried the same with the controls on the tv.
Tried adjusting colour contrast brightness and sound on ordinary menu.

Switching the set off and unplugging for an hour
Pressing the on off button while set is unplugged.

ASK him what the model number is.

a factory reset will probably sort this out if the son was just messing with the remote control but as selldoor sugests the model number will help us to get the right reset procediure.

Ok. so you are give a clues that something maybe button stuck on remote control, or this is possible to fixed by factory reset, or the others like selldoor suggest.
Yes vinceroger69, from my friend explain I have think so it looks like the menu has been changed by his son or the remote button has been destroyed by his son.

I haven't go to his house yet to check maybe the remote defective or wrong insertion cable or menu setup changed, but I'll try to get a model number and post a new thread.

Of course. I said I get the pictures, but no colour, just black and white likes 19xx years old TV
