    Philips LCD 47 black screen

    I have a Philips LCD model#47PFL3603D/27. The problem I am having is that I will be watching the TV and the the screen will go black. I still have sound. Sometimes the screen goes black slowly, other times instantly. Sometimes it will work good for over an hour or two, other times five minutes or less. It also occasionally makes noise as it goes to black. I can shine a flashlight at the right angle and see whats on the screen. I have taken the back off the TV and cant see anything obvious, but I have little to no knowledge in this department. I have read some people having this problem but a few different fixes. wondering if anyone has had this exact problem or any experience with this TV and an exact fix. I took some pictures, dont know if they will help or not. Can take more pics if needed. Thanks in advance, Andy

    On the smaller used connector, there should be a pin called INV_on, what is the voltage on that pin when it does go to black? If you catch going to black slowly I would monitor that pin and the DIM pin.

      Look at the screen in the darkened room when the picture goes black, see if you can see the slight glow from the backlights or not, we need to find out if the backlights go out or the T-CON board quit working.

        Thanks guys for your responses. drpj23, I cant seem to find INV_on. Sorry to be difficult, but is there any way you could point me in the right direction? which board is it on? I have a multi meter ready to test if I can locate it. budm, I will check tonight after it gets dark. Thanks again

          Check the solder connections @ the backlight inverter transformer @ bottom right of your photo#5 image,the noise you maybe hearing is the arching of the connections from that
          inverter transformer pins to the pad connection.

            Looks like RON CET nailed it on the head. Took the TV further apart to look at the back of ther boards, and that looks like a problem to me. Im guessing I will need a new board then? or can that be fixed? or is it not worth it?

              that can be fixed,take soldering scrap tool or knife blade scrap the pin and the pad,to just where you see the copper run,then you can reapply solder to the pin and exposed copper run to re-flow connection

                Ok Thanks again. I will try that. probably wont be until I get back in town this weekend. Thanks again for your help on this. I will let you know the results.

                    I will keep ya posted. I plan on trying to fix it Friday night or Saturday morning at the latest. If that doesn't work I will order the board. I found it for $75.00 so hopefully that a worst case scenario. Did you take your TV apart yet?

                      Well I re-soldered the connection and so far so good. I watched an hour or so so far and it is working the way it should. Thanks again for all the input. Saved me a bunch of money!

                        Haha. Spoke too soon. Back to the black screen. Tried re-soldering connection again. We will see but I am expecting to have to order a new board.
