Ok so I have this monitor that came out of some machinery. It does not turn on but I have no idea how to work on CRT or rather diagnose.

I read a little about it on some other posts here but otherwise I need help.

So it just does not come on but from the other posts, I suppose this has to have a signal in order to even see an image so is there a way I can trick it?

Two, someone else said they had a dead one and replaced all the caps and it worked. Recommend I do the same or start somewhere else?

Pics and model number are always helpful. That way other people know what you have in front of you.

If the monitor doesn't come ON and doesn't make any noises at all, I would suspect power supply issue. Although before jumping to that, try feeding the monitor with a video signal (PC or whatever else it accepts).

Ya, didn't have a camera at the time sorry...but I will get to that monday.

And yes it looks like a 14 pin vga so I will try that or figure out the pin layout and go from there.

Well I do have new updates. (will get pictures soon!)

But, the green light in the front is lit up but no matter if there is a source to it or not it makes a buzzing sound at a constant pulse or in other words (zipp.....zipp.....zipp etc)

Other than that I will get it apart and let you see it

oh under the brand it says D-82538 but inside next to the flyback it says CM2300 Philips 14"

Um I was also just informed that it was after a move that this stopped working but there's not much connectors (as most wires are soldered on the board) but I guess that may lead to "breaking suspicion".

Oh there was also no charge on the anode when discharging

I would look real close at all the solder joints for small ring (crack) around the component legs, especially on the flyback, transformer, power devices that are mounted on the heat sink, power resistors.

Ok, so I did check the back for cold solder joints and didn't find really anything but there are a few I am going to re-solder but before that I did find something dripping on the board. It looks like a mass of flux...till you prod it to note it is liquid. Nothing looks to be from external and on the CRT you can see where the wire is corroded.


Ideas? (to move on or not?)

Did you look at the case where the openings are to see if you also see some trace of the liquid that have have spilled into the chassis through the vents?

I could not see anything that would have come in externally....the spill is under the CRT so I am a little baffled to where it came from.

So no relay clicking or anything else like that? Most CRTs usually turn ON the degauss as soon as you try to turn them ON. I wonder if the power supply is coming up with the proper voltages.

Can you be more specific about the constant pulsed "zipp" sound? i.e. is it faint or does it sound like arcing?

If you didn't find any bad joints, try checking the power supply voltages. The tube heater (3 to 10V) and B+ (usually around 200V so BE CAREFUL) should come up when you try to turn on the monitor.

Also, any chance you can post a picture of the solder side of the main PCB? More particularly under the PSU area - i.e. where that yellow transformer is in this picture:
