My nephew just was given a Westinghouse tv by a guy that was moving out of his building.. He told my nephew that it had a blown chip (transformer) and he tried to replace it and screwed it up.. Nephew sent me the pic of the board and it looks like the guy pulled the solder pads.. Nephew wants to know if I can help him fix it... After seeing the picture, I am not sure I can.. I figure we could some how run a jumper over to the trace line.. I dont see a trace line near the solder point.. Anyone willing to tell me what can be done?? He wants to fix this, because someone broke in his apt. and stole his... He just brought me the tv and I have pulled the transformer that it looks like he replace.. Boy he has booger this thing up. I have attached a pic that the nephew sent me earlier before I pulled the chip.. I am going to take some more pics after my little one goes to bed.. Leg 1 and 5 is where the pads are missing. And one other one that is partially.

Re: WESTINGHOUSE SK-32H540S Transformer board damage
Doesnt look much of a problem to me ( famous last words) but its not me that is doing it.
First thing would be to test all three darfon tranformers ( what part number are they)
Test Meter on 2000 ohms ( May need to be 20000 if it goes off scale)
Test and record the secondaries - may be as in the attached pic though we have had a few odd ones lately.
EDIT haha it is an odd one see here

Also perhaps you can help identify a cap - can you have a look at yours for a
Big Blue Cap see post 65 in that same thread.
Two on the go at the same time may be able to help each other out.Last edited by selldoor; 08-09-2012, 05:50 AM.Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

This is bad that you and high-tech are having the same burnt out board at the inverter transformer, there must be a lot of the same failure boards out there.Never stop learning

Re: WESTINGHOUSE SK-32H540S Transformer board damage
That is the same symptom as high-tech is having. I will have to sit down and trace out the board to make the diagram and see where to look next, bad lamps can still be the possibilty.Never stop learning

In the future, when reporting measurements, always report the units with it (k, M ohms, etc). I'm assuming from the above none are shorted.--- begin sig file ---

Well after hooking everything back up .. I pulled some readings and my head is starting to hurt.. Starting with `12.5v moving to the right.. First numbers are with AC plugged in and second set is plugged in and power button pushed.

by BriesmithI have a blown smps and I am looking for some reassurance as to the amount of diagnosis I have to do. It blew the instant I plugged it in not under any load.
As you can see from the attached pix, the damage is located around the main or bulk capacitor (since removed for testing) and the resistor array/network that drives it (the bunch of SMD components to the left of the YAMAHA YC775 AMPS logo). The burn mark on the frame clearly shows the pins of the capacitor. And, for the avoidance of doubt, there is no way the board could have contacted the frame, it was correctly mounted on... -
by mikey5791Hi all,
Got this local made DC power supply (12/14V) given free as the transformer has melted. There is no marking or indication to identify what type or rating of transformer used.
Fyi,. I had a busted autogate mainboard with transformer with marking 13-0-13 . Is this the 13v dc type transformer?
My questions are
1. How do i test to see if the transformer is in good working condition?
2. Can this transformer (marking 13-0-13) be used to replace the melted transformer on the DC power supply?
Hope you guys understand what i was asking. My intention is... -
by dennis_elx33Hello All,
i would like to post an interesting topic regarding 3-phase stepdown transformer which we suspect to cause an overcurrent (138A) which resulted to power tripped off of the HV power supply (80KV output).
Problem statement: Power tripped Off
Initial Problem: Found 2 IGBT and 2 rectifier diodes shorted (burnt).
Action Done:
1) Replaced the faulty parts with good spare.
2) Measured impedance of the 3phase input lines and found that L2 to L3 has 23.3ohm while other pairs are 51Kohm. This pins will... -
