Definitely shorted then. Is that outside of circuit?

I have a few bridge rectifiers here, if your pic matches one of yours I'll throw it in the package.

Yeah that's tested outside of circuit. It looks like this http://i.imgur.com/3Wvzf.jpg

What should it do for those tests? Give a reading for all the pins and give the same but negative for swapped pins?

Dead on match for one I have here.

Test between 2 and 3. Should read the same as open circuit.

Pins 2 and 3 gives .008, as does touching nothing. Touching together (so open circuit) is now .003

So, looks like your bridge is looking dead. That explains the blown fuse.

Awesome one step closer to fixing it! Do you want a bit of cash for the bridge so you're not short when you need to replace it?

Also, just for my reference for next time: what should the bridge read? And why can't I just use the resistance test on it? If it's supposed to be an open circuit shouldn't I be able to?

No problem. I bought them for 10p each, minimum order 5. Used one to fix a 42" LCD, fairly common failure.

The bridge should read O.L. on the AC pins, and from each ~ to + and - about 500 (350 - 800) in one way.

                  So e.g.:

                  Red/Black
                  ~ to ~: "1"
                  ~ to +: 500
                  + to ~: "1"
                  ~ to -: "1"
                  - to ~: 500
                  + to -: "1"
                  - to +: "1"

Last two could read zero if there's a short further down the line.

I'm a little confused, I only ever see 0L when I use the settings with ohms on. And is the reading 0L or 1? Also, I only ever say .009ish, would 500 be around .500? Or am I misreading?

I'll put a good diode 1N400x in the package for you to get to grips with your meter. A bridge rectifier is just four diodes connected together in a convenient package.

And no, I don't drink beer. (It's not a religious thing... I just don't like it.)

Yeah you need some thermal paste let me check and see if I've got a small bit left. You just need a fingertip of the stuff.

Is that because it's heat sensitive? Should I be watching the temperature of the iron when I put it in?

No concern with soldering as long as you don't solder any pin for longer than 30 seconds.

The thermal paste is to ensure that the device doesn't overheat as it dissipates a fair bit of power.

Thanks a lot for the parts. The bridge rectifier and fuse are now in place but I still don't have a responsive TV. I've tested the labelled connections at the end of the PSU on 40V DC and they're doing more than they were:

Reading just touching back plate: 0.1
                                    STB: -0.00
                                    5VSTB: 0.67
                                    5V: -0.00
                                    12V: 0.00
                                    4x GND: 0.00
                                    24V: -0.00.

                                    What am I missing?

Yeah ground is against the metal back panel.

I didn't hear any ticking but the radio was on in he background, should I listen out?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

                                            Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

Panasonic TC-P54VT25 No image. A or D board?
                                            by canadaboy25
I have a Panasonic TC-P54VT25 that will power on and prime the display but there is no image at all.

The panel is primed as there is a slight glow from the entire panel. This means the problem should be logic related. The service manual also confirms this and recommends replacing the A or the D board.

I have tried to get the TV to display the test sequence but I have been unable to and I don't even know if this TV has a test sequence or not. I tried following tom66's instructions in post #3 on this thread https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26790. There was...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock

I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board
