Poor Old Vizio (VW26L) Died on Me...

Hey everyone. I went to turn on my 5+ year old Vizio, Model VW26L, yesterday and much to my chagrin, I received no picture! Upon closer evaluation I noticed that the orange bottom light would go off as it should when I pressed the power button to turn on the tv, but nothing would happen and after a few seconds the orange "off" light would return.

Now it just so happens I have a full electronics bench at my disposal at work, but I do not normally work the floor (I'm the sales director, lol) and only have basic skills myself. I do have my brother's help, and he has repaired his XBOX360's and such... so really I guess I just need a direction.

I assume the best first move is to open 'er up, see what's cookin'?

If you all have any suggestions for how to diagnose the issue, or general ideas about what to check... it would be greatly appreciated. I think once we are pointed in the right direction it is only a (I hope very short) matter of time before I once again have a working tv.

    Thanks a million!!!

You might get a retiredcaps bonus point if you include a shot of the bench.

Post clear focused top down view pictures of all your boards following my sig file below exactly.

If you all have any suggestions for how to diagnose the issue, or general ideas about what to check... it would be greatly appreciated.
With the LED going on/off, you could have bad caps causing unstable power to the main board or you could have a bad voltage regulator. These two seem to pop up regularly on Vizio branded products.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

I shall get right on those photos, boards and benches! I also promise to not be a noob... I will use the attachment function instead of ridiculous 73rd party hosted site links. PROMISE!

Re: Poor Old Vizio (VW26L) Died on Me...

I just fixed one of these models too, the 3 10v caps (that are used to filters a 15v rail) go bad. Capxon (aka crapxon) is the worst brand of capacitors known to man. You should see them buldged and leaking when you open the set. Replace the 35v caps as well as theyre also crapxon, but are less likely to fail first before the 10v ones which were way to low rated to begin with for the application. (Replace with 16v or better)

Your problem might be something else though, but i can pretty much guarantee you those caps will be bulged and leaking.

https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16169 this thread shows the power supply, but covers a different issue.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

                UPDATE!!!!

IN FACT the 10v caps were all bulgy and gross... put them on order and should have them tomorrow (YAY MOUSER!) or Friday.

Hopefully replacing all of those caps will fix it, if nothing else I shall post here after I finish knocking the Crapxon out of my set

Re: Poor Old Vizio (VW26L) Died on Me...

I have the exact model with a somewhat similar issue - but upon opening up the TV; there are no bulging caps or leaking - everything looks great in there.

I turned it off one night and it has never turned back on.

                  1. Orange light is on and does not go off after hitting power button (tried remote too)
                  2. I tried to "reset" by unplugging - waiting 15 secs and plugging back in - when I did this the orange light would not come back on and TV was still dead.
                  3. Left unplugged overnight and when plugged back in the orange light came back but TV is still dead.

                  Any suggestions?

                  Thanks,

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                            Assuming...

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

                            by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
