    Samsung Ln46b610a5f Power Surge

Had a lightning strike the other day that zapped the TV. Decided that I would give fixing it a try.

There is no sound, lights or anything coming from the TV when powered up. When I unplug the connector from the power board to the Main board the back light will come on. All of the pins on the connector seem to have the proper voltages. As soon as I plug the connector in the back light goes off and I loose the voltages on the connector.

I am not an EE by any means so this may be a painful process. I would love to troubleshoot these boards to fix them but I do not think I have the know how. So the best scenario is that I narrow down the board so I can just order a new one.

Any other information that is necessary I will be happy to provide.

    Thanks in Advance!

Are you on Cable TV or Antenna? More likely the surge might have come through the cable not through the power cable since in the power cable incoming circuits will have small surge protection devices right after the main AC fuse, they will conduct and take out the main fuse which will stop the surge from going further unless the surge was really high. Since you can still power up the TV, then more likely the surge had damaged the main board.
Next thing you need to do will be taking REAL good pictures of the whole inside of the TV so we see how all the boards are connected together, then the pictures of all the boards.

I am on Cable... The cable line was definitely surged because I had to replace some blackened connectors. Also, the digital cable box was fried. The Cable box was connected to the TV through HDMI.

At this point you should find out first what the replacement board cost will be, when surge hits the main board so many components can be damaged, in other word you may fix one section first then find out later that the other sections are also damaged. It will be real in-depth troubleshooting dealing with desoldering and soldering surface mounted components which takes a lot of skill not to damage the board and the components.

So your pretty sure it is the main board. I just wanted a more expert opinion then my own (I Also thought it was the main board).

I just found it interesting that the power board would supply the proper voltages when the main board is disconnected, but when the main board was reconnected it would loose the voltages. Seems like some signal is telling the power board to quit supplying power to the main board.

when looking for a new board, don't use the number on the board itself. use the number starting with BN94 that is usually found on the white sticker (bar code).
Also try disconnecting the LVDS cable and see if it will power up. That will rule out the TCON.

I am pretty sure the main board is bad, the control lines (PS_ON (power supply on), and BL_ON (backlights on) that goes to the Power supply and the Inverter board may be damaged in the main board. One thing that bugs me is that you said the backlights are on when you disconnect all the cables to the main board, is that true? The backlights and the 24vdc power supply should not be on unless they get the command from the main board to turn them on.
Oh yes, I forget about the T-CON board, I hope it is not damaged either.

When i disconnect the line running from the power supply to the main board (30 pin connector) the back light will turn on (the connector on the power supply is labeled CN801 , but on the main board its CN201). It is the 28 white with two black wires in the TVLayout.jpg above.

The back light connector is on the bottom right of pwrBoard.jpg and has 6 white and one black wire.

I do have some voltage to the main board when the cable is connected but it is only 5v to the pin labeled SB (pin 3 I believe) on the power supply board.

None of the 13 volt pins have voltage

That is normal, the 5vstb is always on power supply, the 12v and the 24v power supply are commanded on by the main board using the PS_ON signal when you hit the power switch or Remote pwr on button. And the BL_ON signal from the main board is routed through the power supply board to the Inverter board.

The part number for the main board is BN94-03141G. Did a Google search on the # found many sellers. Any advice on good/inexpensive/safe merchants.

The usual mainboard model numbers for samsungs begin with BN41-xxxxxx.
From what I was able to find, your board is a BN41-01149B

truep posted (#7) above that I should use the number on the sticker

                                sticker: BN94-03141G
                                Board: BN41-01149b

Are they the same? Which one should I use?

Looked at the shopjimmy.com board... shopjimmy says the part number is BN94-03141G and that is on the sticker, but BN41-01149b is still on the board.

I am assuming that the BN41-01149b is the "base" main board, but if Samsung changes/adds anything on that board they give it the new BN94 Number. Yes?No?

The numbers as printed on the BARCODE sticker, the BN41-01149b is the number of the blank circuit board (PCB) (no parts installed) which is used to build more than one version of the circuit board assemblies (PCBA).
So the BN94-03141G is the one you want to use.
If you are indoubt, send the picture of the board and the sticker to the seller to make sure it will match.
