Re: Phillips 42PFL5432D/37 Chirping and No Picture

Thank you for the help. I've removed the suspected diodes and capacitors. The only two that read "bad" with the multimeter was ZD904 and ZD902. The others seemed to be good. I'm not sure about the capacitors. I'll post a picture below, they are bulging. Tested the caps with ohms, one read 11 M Ohms, The next one was 1 M Ohms, the last was dead completely. I guess I need three capacitors along with the two diodes.

You can't test the caps with an ohms meter. But they are definitely very far gone with that sort of bulge. Replace the other large CapXon on the board. The particular manufacturer CapXon has a clear problem with reliability - their caps are one of the most commonly reported failures. Use Panasonic FC/FM/FR as replacements for the CapXons.

Thank you for the info and quick responses. I just added that last cap to my list of parts. I chose the longer life Panasonic capacitor for that one. I'll let you know how it is in a few days when those arrive and are installed.

For the diode D912, after removing it from the circuit board, I tested it and it tested good. So I put that back in along with the D925. After installed again, the D925 tested good, but the D912 tested OL solid beep for both directions. What would cause it to read differently on the board compared to off? Is it because I don't have all diodes installed on the board? I currently have the two diodes that I know are bad, removed from the board because I'm waiting for those parts to come in.

            ZD902 & ZD904 are P6KE120A
Not sure about the other 2 but the service manual should give a part number in the spare parts list.

All the parts can be bought from digikey.com
Shipping starts at around $2.20 for first class US mail if you live in the United States.
Thanks guys after following this thread and buying the parts my TV works again. I really appreciate what you guys are doing here. Also Mr. Bill the chirping noise in mine was caused by the ZD902, and ZD904.

Yes I forgot to follow up, but this did fix the TV. Works well again Thanks!

Re: Phillips 42PFL5432D/37 Chirping and No Picture

Good Evening Everyone! I have a 42PFL5432D/37 with the "chirp" of death.

I have currently replaced the following on my power board
                3 - 1000uf/35v caps
                1 - 2200uf/16v cap
                Diode - ZD904
                Diode - ZD902
                Diode - D912

The problem I am having is with D912. It is reading open (.000) in circuit, but reads .486 out of circuit. I can not find what is causing this issue. I am assuming something before the diode is causing it, but not sure what.

If anyone could shed some light on this for me, I would really appreciate it!

I have attached a picture of the power board. The green circles are of the caps and diodes I have replaced and read good. The red circle is the diode that is reading .000 in circuit, but .486 out of circuit.

                Thanks!!

The same diode circled in red on your picture, D912, was reading just like how you described on my board as well. I am pretty sure I replaced that one too. Since replacing everything you circled in both green and red, the television worked normally again.

Did you get the diodes from radioshack? I'm kind of hesitant using them, but im in a time crunch. The customer is moving at the end of the weekend, so I need to parts quick.

No, I got them from Newark I believe. As long as the part number or specs are the same it should work.

I am working on this same tv. started with just the visibly blown caps. thought about replacing the 4th big one but didn't. no fix and with chirping. I just picked up a new meter that does capacitance and diodes. I pulled 5 caps off the board including the 3 that i just replaced (which look fine) and tested them with my new meter and then a friends meter they all 5 show open loop. Is this normal? Secondly i went through and tested all the diodes. I also get that D912 is bad. ZD902 shows good and ZD904 seemed a little low but still around 490 range. But D926 was in the 200's. My meter sounds off at first on 926 then shows around 200. I am assuming that it is bad? My current plan of attack i think will be to replace all capacitors on board and the 4 diodes mentioned. Do you guys recommend the use of a esr meter. Have been thinking of getting one to be able to test caps in circuit.

Thanks cheif0x. I ordered some from digikey and replaced both diodes. Backlight now turns on and working great! Now I don't have sound ! Son of a b!^ch!

I'm getting 12V to the speaker ports and the headphone jacks on PC and AV3 source work. I also tested the speakers on another device and they work and tried using a (known good) speaker, but I get nothing.

I used these troubleshooting steps from the service:

                          4. No TV sound
                          Check if
                          tuner TU201 pin11
                          output IF signal
                          No
                          Replace TU201
                          Yes
                          Check U301

TU201 and U301 both have output.

If anyone can help further I would greatly appreciate it!

I would start with replacing the 2 diodes ZD902 and ZD904. My experience was that D912 will test bad until these two are replaced.
