Hi. I just picked up a LG RU-42PX10C plasma tv and was hoping to be able to fix it. I have repaired 2 LCD's previously and recapped a bad computer monitor. All went well. This one has a 1 inch wide black stripe running top to bottom. I thought it was the connector thing with the aluminum plate (if its called a that) from the screen to the 6870QCE014B main logic controll board. Tried resoldering the 4 black things with 100 written on them(sorry i'm new to this and don't know what they are called or how to test them although I get 10 ohms across them all). TV worked for about an hour at night. Turned it on in the morning, same problem black line back again. Tried resoldering again,no luck. Changed the 6870QCE014B board still same problem. I still think its something to do with this connector. The last time I turned it on to test it the connector was not securely clamped down and it sparked and burnt two places as you can see in the photos but this does not seem to have caused any additional problems(leason learned for next time). Still just the one black line. Are these replaceable? They seem to be a permanent part of the screen. Can they be repaired? Do I now have a parts tv? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: lg ru-42px10c Black lines Scrap?
The ribbon can only be replaced with panel as it is attached. Fixing this can be difficult but possible. You can repair it with small signal wire and bypass the connector entirely but it will be very crude looking. Just don't get too carried away with heat.Comment

by Wf789Hi, I'm new around here and hoping that there may still be some people on here that are knowledgable about plasma display repair, as some of the old badcaps forum posts have been pretty useful to me so far.
For any regular plasma TV I probably wouldn't bother to go through this effort, but I have a pro-grade Pioneer plasma which I really want to use and it would be a shame to throw it out since there's not many of them still around these days. The plasma has the typical black horizontal lines that seem plague plasma displays. I've counted 3 lines on top of the screen and 4 at the... -

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by FirentiosiThanks for offering your assistance with this. I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.
The issues are as follows: the...2 Photos - Loading...
