wow, been had on this set. rain spots, rust, roach poop, missing interconnect cable from av input to mainboard, cable from mainboard to tcon is some rigged krap. no led no power. Have 110vac into inverter board, 160ish dc output from inverter board to main power supply, inerter board already has some new inverters and they check ok, i think i have a main ps issue and probhably a whole lot more. I have no 5v, no 3.3v, nothing.

I will post some pics tommorow this will give you a good laugh.

Oh well. I traded a 27 incher i had $15 into for: this krap emerson set and a working 20 inch sanyo lcd so i should still come out ok. I guess the good thing is now i have 6 good inverter transformers....

well its toasty i think. Ive got 160 or 170vdc fromn the inverter boasrd to the main power supply board. I have that same 160 into the transformer, and absolutely nothing out of the outpuit side. SO i have a bad power supply transformer, and whatever the eff else that might be wrong with this thing.

I believe this shall be a parts set. THose inverters will come in handy someday

Usually, anything that had roaches is trashed. Its almost the same as water getting inside - you dont know what circuit got fried. That roach poop is conductive and not worth your time cleaning unless it was a 52 inch or something.

Looking at this set, it appears to run the same chassis and plastics as a sony bravia. I will document this set with several pictures so you can confirm or deny my suspicion.

WHen powered on the led goes from red to blue, tv comes up with a picture, then tv immeadiately shuts down, back to red standby led. I have been told its been fussy to power on for awhile now and finally got to the point of not staying powered on now at all.

I suspect bad caps. Getting ready to tear it down now. WIsh me luck.
I found the same Emerson model on the curb near my home waiting for bulk pick-up. tossed it in the trunk and a year later found it buried in the shed. Your post/thread helped me focus on the correct board (inverter). The secondary all tested the same Ohms but then when I tried unplugging all the connectors and then plugging back in it would not light up so I put them all back on and the symptom was the same, however, I heard a barely audible bzzzzt sound and saw a very thin wisp of smoke coming from the area of #6. I hit power on a again and saw the smoke come from between the two wires of #6 that were touching half way to the black rubber grommet. Plain as the nose on my face is a chard section on each wire where they were touching. I spread all wires apart on all transformers and powered on and TADAAAA! The char looks deep and I cannot see wire inside the hole in the insulation. Not sure whether to cover liberally with electricans tape or splice first. (are these super fine wires that are difficult to splice?). If it works, don't fix it? Picture upon request, I just joined so need to learn how to post pix.

Great thread guys! I just brought one of these back to life with a new transformer using this thread!

                  by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
                  by PantherDave
                  Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                  Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on
                  by PopsCaps
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on. The indicator flashes red 3 times.
I do not hear any sound and I cannot see any backlight.
I have tried disconnecting every cable on each board one at a time to see if anything changes.
The only change is when I disconnect AC-DET cable on the Power Supply board or on the other end if I unplug the CN7009 connection on the B-Board and try to power on the TV the indicator will stay on solid green until I power off.
My friend ordered another used power supply board but it is also doing the red indicator flash 3 times...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                  by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
