Question about cracked screen repair, only one layer cracked?

Hello,

I have a friend who's TV has gotten a spider crack, however the picture is not ruined and still displays perfectly. He says the crack seems to be on top of the actual picture. He also says that when he touches the crack on the outer glasss it also seems that the crack is under that outer layer as well as it feels perfectly smooth and normal to the touch.

So then there must be a layer, between the very first one and were the actual screen starts that might be replaceable on it's own. Does that sound correct to you? Or would disassembling the screen to finally reach this layer be impossible?

Furthermore what would be the part number? This is a Dynex DX-PDP42-09

no need to dis-assemble the LCD screen, once a screen is crack its can't be repaired. It doesn't matter how or where the crack appear.

This LCD TV is good for parts or buy a used replacement screen if possible !

The Dynex DX-PDP42-09 is a plasma TV, and it appears it uses a Samsung panel. Many plasma TVs have a separate glass plate with an EMI suppression layer in front of the actual plasma panel. Unfortunately, Dynex doesn't provide service information.

Replacing this glass plate may be possible, it's not something I have ever done. IF I were facing the project, I would do something like this:

Remove the back of the TV and identify the model number of the plasma panel (it will be on a white label).

Use Google to identify other TVs which use the same panel (preferably Samsung or Philips).

Download the service manual for those TVs and look through the parts list to identify the part number for the glass plate.

Google that part number to determine the price.

It may be that glass plate is an integral part of the panel and is not available. It also is possible the glass plate is provided by Dynex. In either case your friend is SOL unless a good panel is found.

The only cost effective way to fix this would be to find a Samsung that has a broken panel but good front glass. You can buy these new but they cost $250 or more just for the glass.

where are you located? If your in northern il or southern wisconsin lmk i have a bunch of junker tvs. if i have a glass thats close or perfect i can make you a killer deal on one..

oh wow cool! yeah when you get a chance measure it up and lmk. getting a 42" vizio with a smashed screen but suposedly good glass . ive got a 42" glass from an emerson plasma(samsung) but the plastic filter coating is scratched pretty good. i figure mabye you could scrape that krap off and just use it as a plain sheet of clean glass. screw the feds emi bull hooey ( you can have that glass for free man)

I can assume from what you said that if there is a screen guard case for that TV then there is a chance to get repaired. But, if it is a normal LCD TV then I think it can't be repaired. Even you can search for TV screens on the internet to get solutions. Also, if you have a picture of it then I will suggest you share it here. So that, we will get an idea about it. Thank you.
