Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions

Mr PlainBill, thank you for the suggestions. I will try to find someone with superior soldering skills to install the repair kit for me. Coppel TV repair is the company that I was going to buy from on eBay. They actually offer a "fix or replace" option where you pay like $70 (this includes shipping) and send your board. They probably will do the same fix as in the repair kit and send the unit back. Coppel claimed that the Z sustain fails 90% of the time if the Y failed first.

Unless I find a better board.

Anyone know why the board makes the popping noise initially, just before the video goes out? Assuming it's not the capacitors...

I'm trying to find a "new" y sustain, but all I find are "refurbished, recertified, used" etc.
This site has one for $150, but I can't tell if it is used http://www.shopjimmy.com/ysus-6871qyh953a.htm

          Any ideas?

Oh and can you guys recommend what kind of physical damage I can look for on the boards to identify other issues the Vizio might have?

The "pop" sound is the classic sign of the IPM hybrid taking a nosedive to the china electronics junk of junk hell

Find and replace the bad IPM. BTW i have that Y-sus kicking around though. from a boardset someone gave me. no idea if it works, no idea ifi its blown, but im treating it as blown and tossed it in the parts bin.

I was pulling the tabs off the z sustain to remove it, and one of them got torn. It wouldn't budge out of the connector without being ripped for some reason.

Is this the end of my TV repair project? Will this new damage prevent normal operation? Those gold tabs seem to connect directly to the screen.

As long as the other end didn't get torn you should be able to clean this up and it should work. There are no individual traces, it's a flat conductive strip.

Can you guys verify that it is diagnostic when the tv is run for several hours and the y sus is not as hot as the z sus. During normal conditions, do they heat up about the same?

                    Thanks for all ya'll's' help!

OK, so here is the outcome:
I got the hybrid ICU replaced through Coppell TV repair (ebay). Mr PlainBill, you were correct, of course, about the "pop of death" resulting from components on the hybrid exploding. With the two big caps on the PCB and the hybrid replacement, the fix cost about $120 total.
Thank you all for advising me along the way. Another good TV saved from a landfill!

good to hear you got it going, I have a similar situation (I posted in another thread but nobody is helping yet) I have replaced the hybrid and now I have the "tries to turn on, then turns back off" as PlainBill puts it, how can I tell for sure if the caps on the pcb are bad? I have read the guides on here but i'm still learning,,, I need to discharge them first right? Thanks!

                          POP OF DEATH: STRIKES BACK
The TV ran for probably 6 hours, on and off, and everything was great. I saw a little red snow at first but the picture was excellent for the duration of the six hours... and then - POP!
What do you guys think? I am willing to get a whole new y zuz and/or z sus now that I know the TV can be saved.
I really don't see any bad caps any where. And, Coppell Repair charged me $90 for the parts and labor and shipping to replace the hybrid ICU. Not sure if they guarantee anything at this point.

                          Any suggestions?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                              Assuming...

i have a 2020 macbook pro 13" A2251 with 820-09149 logic board so i found an issue with chip labeled U6903 according to schem. boardview using flexBV software, so i removed it from the board and the issue im having is that the chip says "07A08FI ELC180" on top of it but when searching for a replacement chip, i can find tons of identical looking chips that also have "ELC180" printed on them but the first set of digits is never the same so im trying to find out if i need this exact chip with these same numbers as mine and if not which ones are compatible as a replacement?...

                              hello everyone,

I don't normally do tv repairs but this is a case with my personal TV which got fried together with many other electronics in my house after a thunderstorm.

The TV is a Philips 65PUS8518/12 which had no power. I measured and concluded that the main board was probably fried through ethernet or hdmi. I found a board with same number 715GD328-M0F-B00-005Y (I had G) but from a 55PUS8518. The TV starts but the image is doubled, distorted. I need to set the panel code which is 016 according to the sticker on the back but I can not seem to do it.

                              ...

Led TV Board Replacement, same part number and model, different size

                              Hello my friends!
I have a question that I think you can answer and help me with!

I have a faulty main board from an led TV. And I found the same part number board and design but is from a 43" TV and I want to use it on a 65". On its stickers , all are the same except the wattage for the LEDs backlight, both state different watts and LED Voltages!

So I presume that the backlight inverter section from the replacement board has lower wattage then the original one, am I right?

My concern is that the board won't draw enough voltage to the bac...

                              Hi,
I try to repair this fly-back type PSU, I diagnosed (identifiable) dead N-MOS and fuse, but there are 3 smd resistors on the bottom that burned and became unreadable.

The support in charge of the brand in France managed to get me the schematics from Ecler, but it didn't include the PSU board. After a while they finally told me that the unit was too old so they don't have the PSU board schems.

I can find replacement PSU board online, but only for the Nuo 3 or 4 or 5, and it seems they ar compatible with each other, as I often find boards compatible with these...
