Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
POP OF DEATH: STRIKES BACK
The TV ran for probably 6 hours, on and off, and everything was great. I saw a little red snow at first but the picture was excellent for the duration of the six hours... and then - POP!
What do you guys think? I am willing to get a whole new y zuz and/or z sus now that I know the TV can be saved.
I really don't see any bad caps any where. And, Coppell Repair charged me $90 for the parts and labor and shipping to replace the hybrid ICU. Not sure if they guarantee anything at this point. ...

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
OK, so here is the outcome:
I got the hybrid ICU replaced through Coppell TV repair (ebay). Mr PlainBill, you were correct, of course, about the "pop of death" resulting from components on the hybrid exploding. With the two big caps on the PCB and the hybrid replacement, the fix cost about $120 total.
Thank you all for advising me along the way. Another good TV saved from a landfill!

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
I got busy and put the project aside for a while... but before I order a replacement y sus..
Can you guys verify that it is diagnostic when the tv is run for several hours and the y sus is not as hot as the z sus. During normal conditions, do they heat up about the same?
Thanks for all ya'll's' help!

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
I was pulling the tabs off the z sustain to remove it, and one of them got torn. It wouldn't budge out of the connector without being ripped for some reason.
Is this the end of my TV repair project? Will this new damage prevent normal operation? Those gold tabs seem to connect directly to the screen.
One photo shows the attachment thinga-magiga that was pulled ok and the other that got ripped....

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
I'm trying to find a "new" y sustain, but all I find are "refurbished, recertified, used" etc.
This site has one for $150, but I can't tell if it is used http://www.shopjimmy.com/ysus-6871qyh953a.htm
Any ideas?Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Qu...953a.htm

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
Mr PlainBill, thank you for the suggestions. I will try to find someone with superior soldering skills to install the repair kit for me. Coppel TV repair is the company that I was going to buy from on eBay. They actually offer a "fix or replace" option where you pay like $70 (this includes shipping) and send your board. They probably will do the same fix as in the repair kit and send the unit back. Coppel claimed that the Z sustain fails 90% of the time if the Y failed first.
Unless I find a better board.

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
My apologies that was a typo and I meant to say fuses not cap's.
I did not see signs of light while toggling the input and menu buttons (I don't have an extral DVD player to test with).
I guess I'll go with the Y sustain replacement. Do you suggest a "seller refurbished" board on eBay?

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
Most techs say it is the Y sustain on the Vizios, so go ahead and get a new 6870QYH005B board. One guy said that the Z sustain will 90% fail within a month, so get both Z and Y.
Not sure if I should try to find a new one or "seller refurbished" one on eBay:

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
Would anyone please advise me what setting to use on the DMM? Here is a pic of it:

I turned on the TV and placed the multimeter to 300 V~ (the first setting to the right of OFF) and placed the ends where the yellow arrows are pointing in this pic:
http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk100/pcptwist/P1010013-1.jpg
The result on both the Z and Y Sustains was "1" and "0" alternating on all four fuses....

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
I'll try multimeter readings on the fuses (when I get one. Here are shots of the fuses I have might as well post 'em

Re: Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
OK, thank you for advising me on this. The fuses are all white, there was no indication that they blew from what I saw. I also did a power check, and neither of the boards are stone cold... the z sustain was a bit warm, the y sustain was a bit warmer.

Vizio Y Sus Z Sus Replacement Questions
Hi everyone. I have a P42HDTV10A Vizio. Previous owner heard a pop and video went out, sound still worked. I checked the capacitors but do not see any damaged ones, other the two 330uf 450v fatties on the power board that have a small bulge on their heads [pic #3]. All the TV techs I spoke with say it is a Y Sus Z Sus board issue. Of course, I would like to do it myself if I can but I am only familiar with mac/pc disassembly. On eBay though, someone advertises a mail in service for my 6870QYH005B board... $140 to attempt to fix both the y and z boards. Please take a look at the photos... I could...
