    Samsung UN46C8000XFXZA vertical bars/horizontal lines

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went into settings and turn on the diagnostic image you can see attached.

I once had a Sony with a bad tcon that did strange lines and colors fading in and out, kind of like a Winamp visualization. I'm thinking the tcon may be bad in this Samsung as well. I know alternatively it could be panel failure, but I don't feel like that's the case as it's fairly uniform across the screen and the bars will appear and disappear which I've never seen a bad panel do.

The tcon is $40 on SJ, but before I decide to order one I'd like everyone's opinion on this. I also plan to resell this tv and if I have to put 40 into it I might not make much of a profit at all.

Re: Samsung UN46C8000XFXZA vertical bars/horizontal lines

u could get a tcon but premising to seller it must be took from a working smashed screen tv..
it could be a faulty level shifter ic on tcon or a bad diode on panel distrib. board or a faulty gate cof..

Thanks for the reply! I've found the board on ShopJimmy and that appears to be cheaper than eBay. Do you think the tcon is actually the problem, or one of the other things you mentioned? If i try to resell this tv I think I'd get $100 for it, and if i DO replace the tcon id make about 60 profit.

i cannot answer this q., i'm stuck in the same situation, due to high cost of tcon, in my model's tcon some test points appears to report a bad signal, with a simple frequency meter who knows? My suspect is a bad ICE1 on tcon from ST .. but the most clued is the panel.. have u got oscilloscope?

It looks like the panel is at fault some how to me. There is a black band at the bottom of the screen in pics 1 and 2 and in the test image pic 3 that part is a good picture with a bright line above it.

I haven't messed with it since you suggested it's the panel. I wouldn't take a chance on buying a tcon that might not fix it. I don't understand HOW panels fail aside from trauma. Is it a factory defect that causes them to fail? What dictates the symptoms they present?

ok only to know that you gave up, it's a right choice unless tcon is cheap , you could resell it, or if seller accept return.. these panels fails for one of these reasons, static charge, mains surge, bad tcon circuitry (maybe programmed obsolescence)

I'd like to attempt to do this if anyone can help me understand which pins i should and should not cover:

I have attached up close photos of my connectors. I don't see any traces going BETWEEN the two connectors, but maybe I'm misunderstanding him.

i can guide you to search for the abnormality i was talkin about, i need close up photo of the ic i mentioned, if you have scope or frequency meter

Had a sanyo that displayed very similar, was a loose tab bond, "fixed" with a shim.

I had the frame off and messed with every tab. Zero change. The changes happen on their own, like the red bars fading in, out, resetting. That's why I initially thought tcon.

Your display does look a lot like many with the bad diodes on panel driver boards, not sure what your model has on it tho.

Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

                                          Hi all,

My TV had been showing for the last year some faint horizontal lines on all of its right side, about one out of each 4 of 5 rows of pixels. Not much of a bother, they were unnoticeable when watching a movie. Then, all of a sudden the horizontal lines became much stronger and crossed the whole screen, effectively making it a pain to watch.

I watched some youtube video where some guy "fixes" it with some tape on the ribbon cable of the t-con, so I tried that, but to no avail. Actually, after putting the TV back together again things worsened: apart...

I just acquired this 3D LED yesterday and it has horizontal lines on a little more than half of the screen. When I first turn it on it has thin black lines going across that makes the image look serrated, and then shortly after patterns of thicker red lines fade in. If I turn it off and right back on it will reset to just the black lines and the red will again fade onto the screen.

I initially thought tab bonds, but flexing the bezel makes no difference, and the fact the image sort of resets after cycling power is different. I haven't opened it up yet to actually test applying...

                                          Hi guys

I just started fixing 4k TV few months ago. so I am still learning a lot
I got this tv from friend complaint is ghosting or horizontal lines on image.

never saw the original symptom but I took the tv back home. the funny part is that after bringing to home, the tv worked fine no issue for 3 weeks.
then it started to show the ghosting white image.
I started using the tape method, but this tv does not have a T con board and it has only 1 ribbon cable from main board to the tv panel.
it has 3 thin small boards at the bottom of the...
