Toshiba TV 55L6200U horizontal lines + vertical bands. Any hope?

    Hi all,

My TV had been showing for the last year some faint horizontal lines on all of its right side, about one out of each 4 of 5 rows of pixels. Not much of a bother, they were unnoticeable when watching a movie. Then, all of a sudden the horizontal lines became much stronger and crossed the whole screen, effectively making it a pain to watch.

I watched some youtube video where some guy "fixes" it with some tape on the ribbon cable of the t-con, so I tried that, but to no avail. Actually, after putting the TV back together again things worsened: apart from the horizontal lines, I saw now a big vertical band of corruption on the right side, plus intermitent flickering horizontal lines of corruption accross all the screen. Maybe I damaged the t-con or lcd panel while opening the TV, or maybe it was just a coincidence and part of the same problem. What do you people think?

I know almost nothing about TVs, but my best guess is that the problem is the LCD screen, which is non-repairable. I was wondering if, in this forum's opinion, either the horizontal lines or the vertical band might be due to the t-con, and if replacing it might solve it. I will order a new t-con if there's a small but real chance that this might solve both problems.

You can find linked here below some pictures and a video of the tv (at that moment coonected to my computer via HDMI).

    Thanks a lot!

P.S: One of the two ribbon cables connecting the t-con to the screen seemed to have pins slightly damaged, but I swapped both ribbon cables and the screen showed exactly the same, with the vertical bands on the right side of it. So my guess is that the cable is fine, ...right?

OK, I just added the pictures directly here rather than posting links to my G drive. Any opinions on whether it's repairable?

You can try to unplug 1 of the two flex cables from the tcon and see if it is isolated to a single side

+1, looking like a tcon, driver board or panel issue, really hard to tell because you just can't exactly tell from the display.

From when I tried, I think I remember that nothing appeared on the screen, instead of just one side of the screen turning off. For either side. Swapping the cables didn't change any of it...

The driver board is the mainboard? Also, if it's of any use, there's a video linked on my original post where maybe it's more evident what is happening on the screen.

Any way that I could know if the t-con is to blame, other than buying a new one and trying it?

The panel driver board, is the board that the tcon ribbon cables plug into, sometimes something on there goes bad, like one of those little ceramic capacitors. You can test them for shorts or low ohms, multimeter set to 200 ohms test probe on each side of cap, see if any read short or read very low ohms, I would be suspicious of any testing lower than about 100 ohms, most will probably read higher.

Well that last picture of your lvds cable doesn't look too good, I think I would start with replacing that, did you look on ebay?

I agree, it doesn't look good at all. This is one of the two cables that go from the t-con to each half of the screen.
But the thing is: I swapped the cables, left for right, and the screen displayed exactly the same problem, still on the right side, same as before. So that should indicate that the cable is not the problem? To be clear, the other cable looked perfectly good, didn't seem to have any damage of any kind.

check the connector that the cable goes into. The "damage" might have got stuck in the connector.

Further, how are you disconnecting / connecting the ribbon cables... you are releasing the "clamping mechanism" and NOT just pulling / pushing on the cable, right?

Yeah, I'm pretty used to open and do basic repairs on electronics, mostly computers and laptops, though no soldering. I did release the ribbons carefully, unclamping them first.

But you're right, maybe there's some piece of the cable stuck in the connector. I'll try to inspect it and clean it with a toothbrush when I open the TV again. Thanks!

                        Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
                        by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Sony XBR-85X950G Gray horizontal lines and vertical picture shift diagnosis?
                        by noisykid
5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...

I posted about this previously but didn't get any response, and I have some troubleshooted a bit so I have more info.

The screen is full of horizontal "gaps" or lines that distort the picture badly, and after about 10 seconds of powering it on the screen starts to fill with red vertical bars that take on the horizontal pattern. After the screen filled with the red bars, they instantly vanished and then slowly started to reappear. I initially thought it was tab bonding failure, but after getting down to them and pressing each one I find zero change in the picture. I went...

                        Hi guys

I just started fixing 4k TV few months ago. so I am still learning a lot
I got this tv from friend complaint is ghosting or horizontal lines on image.

never saw the original symptom but I took the tv back home. the funny part is that after bringing to home, the tv worked fine no issue for 3 weeks.
then it started to show the ghosting white image.
I started using the tape method, but this tv does not have a T con board and it has only 1 ribbon cable from main board to the tv panel.
it has 3 thin small boards at the bottom of the...

                        Hello,

                        i order a t-con because i had bad colors on my SONY KDL-40V3000 :

With the new t-con the color are good but there are vertical lines on all the screen :

I've tried the old t-con and it returned to the initial issue (bad colors but no vertical lines)

Is there a way to fix the vertical lines on the new t-con ?

                        Thank you for your help
