Re: Help diagnosing faulty Samsung TV 32' UE32D5000

Fixed! Summary, tools needed, cost and issues:

Preface: Samsung UE32D series would flash the backlight briefly. The readings of the Power board were okay, when the main logic board is disconnected the behavior is the same.

The TV screen have the following structure:
        - Outer decorative frame with clips.
        - Inner metal frame with screws on the side. *1
        - LCD screen.
        - 3 layers for diffusing and light adjustment, hold by cuts in the upper and down side of the plastic inner frame. (3 on top, 2 on bottom)
        - Inner plastic frame that holds the hard transparent glass like diffuser. *2
        - Hard plastic diffuser.
        - Thick sheet of while paper before the metal frame.
        - Metal frame
        - 2 strips of edge lit backlights. *3

        Issues:
Main one - one of the LEDs on the backlight strip was open circuit. The other were also broken, but when measured in diode mode in the wrong direction they would show a reading of 860 Ohms (just like those that work fine). I performed temp solution by using a wire to bridge the open circuit. It worked fine with shadows on the screen (don't recommend, danger of breaking something).

        from above
*1: The metal frame had screws that were over tight from the factory. I used hammer and screw driver to hit them from the side, until they unscrew. I have to do this 6-7 times. Danger of breaking the LCD in this way, had no other choice.
*2: The plastic frame became brittle from the age. Ended up with 4 pieces that I glued with tape, doesn't hold the screen as it use to. Can't be done any differently.
*3: The people from the factory used f* power hammer for those screws, even for the back light screws. One of the sides couldn't be screwed completely from the damaged screw threads. I ended up using few drops of superglue for one of the sides. I also tried low viscosity oil for the screw holes. Other solution would be using thermal glue that would allow heat transfer, worst case thermal paste for cpu and super glue.

        Tools needed:
Philips screw driver (very small size) and regular one. Optional and not recommended - hammer. Tape, to tape any lose parts during disassembly. Something clean to wipe any prints or dust from the screen before you assemble.

        Cost:
You time and sanity. The backlight costed about 27 USD, and it's not an OEM, reduced brightness and resistor mod recommended.

        New and remaining issues:
        -Dust under the screen.
-Slow start/5 blinks of the red power indicator. I thought that would disappear once the backlight is replaced, but I was wrong. This is indicator of remaining issue that the logic board likely detects.

Since the TV once it turns on after 10 sec, works fine, just as it use to. I'm leaving it as is.

Thanks to Bad caps for having such excellent forum for everyone who have a question.

5 blinks on start is normal by Samsung, for the screws, if you put a moderate force on the torsion with the screwdriver and the tip jumps on the head it means it is not the right screwdriver, when a screw is somehow locked because of the head is tight to the metal base you must apply force very slowly until it unlocks.. the correct screwdriver is when the screw put on the tip remains a little stick to it also if you keep it horizontally

That great advice for the correct screwdriver. I assure you it didn't slip. Some of the screw unscrew without any extra force or issues. Some were indeed stuck. I had another person helping holding the frame from the other side while I put some elbow grease. The only explanation is that the screw are over-torqued from the factory. If they were screwed to plastic, this won't be an issue, but metal to metal...

The blinks are odd regardless, I do believe (unless is a false memory) that it use to blink just 3 times. Once it blinks to show that it detect the remote press. Then the screen would power on, turn off blink and then the TV would show TV channel. Also some articles indicate that this number of blinks is a telltale of a problems https://spacehop.com/samsung-tv-red-...nking-5-times/

Maybe i remember old days Samsung, so now 5 blinks is a fault, ok, i'll take note, but the site you linked seems the common time loser's site where 10000 words to say nothing ..just my thought.. about screws sometime metal to metal there is a blue glue i don't know the english name, may be too much of it.. the ways of progr. obsolescence are many..

hes referring to threadlockers, the blue is easy to deal with the red is not, but I doubt they would ever use red on a tv: https://www.loctiteproducts.com/en/k...t-for-you.html

i wonder if carrying out a factory reset could help with the flashing led issue
