This is one of those worthless and time wasting repairs but it's bugging me and I want to figure it out. Simple 9v 1a SMPS wall wart and it's bouncing between 8.2 and 9.4v without load. I've pulled out every single cap and all tested fine. I've replaced the opto and same exact issue. All diodes are testing fine. I'm not sure if the IC can cause this or if the IC had issues you wouldn't get anything at all on output.

Re: 9v super basic wall wart issue
The 431 may be hunting.
Try a 150-1k resistor across the IR LED in the opto.
Points are marked in attached image.
Change the small cap on pri side to 22u/50v or 47u/50v.Attached Filesif you find these attachements useful please consider making a small donation to the site

Re: 9v super basic wall wart issue
9.21v stable. How do I know which one fixed it? Replacing C3 or adding a 330ohm resistor to the opto?
Ok, pulled the resistor off and it's still good. Pulled C3 which was a 10uf 50v cap and replaced with a Panasonic FC 47uf 50v.Last edited by jayjr1105; 03-03-2022, 09:45 PM.--------------------------------------------------------------

Re: 9v super basic wall wart issue
Soldering heat from R&R'ing C3 may have temporarily "woken" it up.
The 431 seems to need a minimum load; when an unbypassed opto LED is the sole source of current to the 431, the latter can hunt.
Leading to voltage "bounce" at no load.
Perhaps it was C3.
With the original C3 in place, leave it out in the cold a while- it'll probably act up afterwards= cap(s) is/were suspect.
In similar SMPS wall warts, I've used 22-47u/50v caps, PW/HE/FC, for C3.
If a new C3 keeps it stable, even cold, you can probably leave the opto LED unbypassed."pokemon go... to hell!"

Capacitor detached from PCB – RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition
Description:
During maintenance on an RTX 2070 SUPER Founders Edition, I found a capacitor lying on my desk after reassembly.
I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.
Procedure performed:
- Removed backplate
- Cleaned heatsink and PCB with isopropyl alcohol + soft ESD brush
- Reapplied thermal compound
- Reassembled card
Observed behavior after reassembly:
- GPU powers on and operates normally under...11 Photos -
by hayezy09Hows it going just wandering if anyone has had any luck repairing rog ally’s no charge issue relating to the ite super io chip, swapped out two of these chips i bought off two different sellers on aliexpress and still no luck, both devices power on from battery but will not charge, cant find any kind of definitive answer online on wether they need to be programmed or not, either they do need to be programmed or the chips i have are no good was just wandering about anyone else’s experiences with repairing this paticular problem, cheers.10-09-2025, 12:12 PM

by ugamazingSo, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:
1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.
2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not... -

by rouninHi everyone,
I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.
🛠 Original Issue
The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.
I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.
