    FSP350-60UMDN -12V Question

Hi.. I just finished replacing the obvious bad caps in this power supply. Just a little stumped. I have two power supply testers. One that doesn't show voltage readout, the other one that does.

Anyway on the -12 line the voltage drops to 11.0 volt and goes back to -12 and beeps on the digital readout PSU tester.

Question is the -12 used on a motherboard? If it was the +12V then I'd be inclined to worry a bit.

I'm gonna hook it up to a test tower I don't care about and see what happens.

Just thought I would ask here.

    Thanks

Just replacing the "obvious bad caps" is NOT recommended. If I have obvious bad caps, then I will change all of them, or at least check them all with capacitance checker. Sounds like you have a regulation problem. Some caps are for filtering out the fluctuation ( ripple ) in the regulation circuits.

      Re: FSP350-60UMDN -12V Question

It's usually OK to replace only output caps and these up to whichever capacity.

You could usually leave the small caps on the regulation circuits Dgtech was talking about since these almost never die. If you want, replace them but with exactly the same capacity.

On my old Fortrons, the -12 V rail had always some strange readouts when running without load. When I connected the PSU's into motherboards, -12 V was within specs. But I doubt it is being used in last 5 years so be easy with it...

-12v is hardly used and has a + or - 10% tolerance, 11v is fine.

Thanks everyone.. I now see why you said just don't replace the obvious bad caps. Got bored tonight so I decided to practice on "dead" PSU boards for the hell of it.. checked as many of the uber small caps as I could and sure enough just about everyone of them was waaaaaaaay off the ESR scale.. the one baby cap was really bad.. it was in the yellow zone with a reading of 50!

I don't have any of these in stock, so over the next little while I will be ordering in the tiny ones.. you know the 0.33 50V ones etc.

If I hadn't already of butchered some of these boards they probably could have been fixed.. it was an eye opener for sure!

The smaller ones not used in the output are usually general purpose and so aren't meant to have low ESR anyway, but 50 ohm doesn't sound good either.

              Victrola multi-player - No audio
              by kokopelli75
              Hello!

My mother has a Victrola Navigator player that stopped functioning after a storm. I checked out what I could - all player functions appear to work, but there is no audio output in either the speakers or the headphone jack. I suspect (with my limited knowledge) that the amplifier part of the device is toast. Photo of the suspected board is attached. There's separate boards for front display, record player, etc. This board has a section for power regulation and a section for amp. There's a UTC7266 7+7W dual bridge amplifier IC and a CSC2314F sound processor IC on the board. Visually,...

I have a CDP-CX355 with Table Error. Anyone know what this is. I am opening it to check belts. I know position switch on bottom of CD holder "donut" goes bad or breaks on some of these models.

XFX R9 380 No Ram Voltage.
              by saronno
Hi, I am trying to repair this R9 380 by XFX.

Fans works, no video .... but it's not the gpu ... there is no voltage
              on the ram.

Looking at the board, there are two APW8722 near the two PCI-e power connector.

Checking the datasheet, there are two interesting pins: BOOT and COMP.
If COMP is pulled down, the IC shut down.
The BOOT honestly I am not sure, but it should give a voltage bump at
the beginning to initiate the voltage regulation.
VCC is presente. The two MOSFET connected to the IC are good.
              There are...

This is my first post on this forum, and my first attempted repair of a modern flat-screen LCD-TV (though I have repaired a few LCD-monitors, all with Elco-problems (high ESR). I have repaired my fair share of TV-sets and VCRs in the past ('90s) and was fairly familiar with the different Philips chassis (KT-3M, K12, K2, K3, K7 are some that come to mind). So I have a fair bit of experience on old sets. Obviously, modern TV sets are quite a different cup of tea.... no HOT or flyback-transformer inside, for starters....

The set came into my possession by accident,...

Marantz SR5012 popping and other sound issues
              by acedogblast
Hello I have a Marantz SR5012 7.1 AV receiver that is producing speaker pop and other sound issues. These sounds are coming out of all connected speakers regardless if they are configured to be used. The rca preouts are clean from these defects so I am assuming the problem has to be with the amplifier.
These sound issues are random and unpredictable. There are times where the unit can go 10 minutes without any problems then suddenly the problems come back. It doesn't seem to matter if there is sound being played or not.

I have disassembled the unit and was able to take out the...
