    FSP300 problems - replacement recommendation?

About 2 years ago, I assembled some computers for a client. I dropped by for a checkup visit, and was very surprised to see bulging capacitors on the motherboard. These were UCC KZE and KZG. I know KZG has low tolerance to heat, but I suspected more might be going on here. The power supplies were Sparkle FSP300, which I was under the assumption was a pretty reliable model. I opened up the power supplies and on 2 of the 3 machines and found a bunch of leaking Fuhjyyu and Jamicon caps. One of the large Fuhjyyu has even popped its top completely and is now visibly hollow.

I'm a bit concerned here. I've seen FSP300 recommended on this forum, and I've done maybe 20 builds with them. Are they generally safe? Is this a freak occurrence or should I be concerned about my other builds failing on me?

Finally, what is a recommendation for a decent quality PSU that won't break the bank? I'll need to be replacing these for my client. She'll want something new, with a warranty, so recapping is not an option here, unfortunately. Is there any brand or model out there safe from Fuhjyyu and Jamicon? I don't need super high end, but something reliable at around 300W. Ideas?

Unfortunately low end FSP/SPI/Sparkle are not all that good. I would just recap them and start using different psu's.

High efficiency, APFC, seasonic quality, except for these have been spotted with su'scon caps, not bad but not good.

Also a pretty good power supply, ATNG makes good server units. These are populated with all teapo caps, often regarded as ok in power supplies.

if it has Fuhjyyu inside i wouldn't say it's safe, as your example shows.

as for "what else is there", delta psus should be good.

i mean, fortron should be good too, but i didn't know they were putting that crap into some of their models too...uh...fortron i was buying 2 years ago had teapo, ost and capxon, and it's still going strong...

Thanks for the helpful replies thus far.

Yes - I know that anything with Fuyjyyu is bad, I just wasn't sure how common it was to find them in the FSP300. Unfortunately, it sounds like this isn't unheard of.

I've heard good things about Delta PSUs, and I've seen them in lots of name brand machines some rather old and still going strong. However, I'm having trouble finding a place that sells Delta units. Any suggestions there?

if i had that price here i would get 2 right away..and i don't really need new psu...

i dunno under what badge(brand) can you find cheapest delta in the usa...

oh yeah, was your psu sparkle, or fortron?
it seems to me that these still moght be two different factories, no matter if fsp is now the official name of the group.

FSP/SPI has 4 factories actually, all differing greatly in quality due to different suppliers and tooling used.

Enlight is sold in the US as rebranded delta (you literally just have to peel the enlight label off to see the delta one), as well as almost all antecs, but they are really cheapening the cap quality in antec built deltas.

            or (out of stock)

they even sell a 750W that is in fact a delta

yes, i remember you said 4, but we're now discussing one of them, ie sparkle.
that's definitely not the fortron i know.
but like you say there are four of them, so it can be hard...hehe...

i would skip these models with smaller 8cm fan.
if badcaps are in, it won't last long.

Me too. I love seeing pictures of busted caps, especially when they explode completly (i.e. the can goes flying or explodes into 100 peices and leaves rolled up paper and foil on the motherboard).
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards
