About 2 years ago, I assembled some computers for a client. I dropped by for a checkup visit, and was very surprised to see bulging capacitors on the motherboard. These were UCC KZE and KZG. I know KZG has low tolerance to heat, but I suspected more might be going on here. The power supplies were Sparkle FSP300, which I was under the assumption was a pretty reliable model. I opened up the power supplies and on 2 of the 3 machines and found a bunch of leaking Fuhjyyu and Jamicon caps. One of the large Fuhjyyu has even popped its top completely and is now visibly hollow.
I'm a bit concerned here. I've seen FSP300 recommended on this forum, and I've done maybe 20 builds with them. Are they generally safe? Is this a freak occurrence or should I be concerned about my other builds failing on me?
Finally, what is a recommendation for a decent quality PSU that won't break the bank? I'll need to be replacing these for my client. She'll want something new, with a warranty, so recapping is not an option here, unfortunately. Is there any brand or model out there safe from Fuhjyyu and Jamicon? I don't need super high end, but something reliable at around 300W. Ideas?
