    Repairing a FSP250-60GTV (PF)

I will be doing a complete recap on this one, minus the 2.2uF and 1uF caps.

    [ORIGINAL CAPS]

    - 2x 470uF 200V Teapo [LXK] Input caps

    - 2x 3300uF 10V Teapo [SEK] +3.3V rail

    - 1x 3300uF 10V Teapo [SEK]
    - 1x Jamicon 1000uF 10V [TM] +5V rail

    - 1x 2200uF 16V Fuhjyyu [TMR] +12V rail

    - 1x 100uF 25V Jamicon [TK] -5V rail

    - 1x 100uF 25V Jamicon [TK] -12V rail

    - 1x 100uF 25V Jamicon [TK] +5VSB output

    - 2x 47uF 50V Teapo [SEK]
    - 1x 470uF 25V Jamicon [TK] Part of +5VSB

I'm also thinking of desoldering the +12V load resistor (seen in the second pic next to the huge pink +5V load resistor) and adding a capacitor in its spot because the PSU is only silkscreened for one +12V filtering capacitor. I'll also mount the +5V load resistor to the heatsink, away from the caps. Any comments?

Unit only supports 13 amps on +12.
I don't think a second cap is worth the trouble but you might up the single to 3300uF [or more].

BTW: Might wanna add diameters but other than that it's great to see good documentation.

        Re: Repairing a FSP250-60GTV (PF)

Oh yeah, the diameters! Forgot those.

The large output caps are all 10mm. It'll be a really tight fit, but I think I can fit a 12.5mm cap for the 12V to get the desired 3300uF and to remove the need to desolder the load resistor.

The largest value 10mm 16V low ESR cap I was able to find was only 1500uF, and that's a no go since this is going into a P4 system.

The 470uF cap part of the +5VSB is 8mm, but theres plenty of space around it so a 10mm cap should not be hard to fit.

        47uF and 100uF caps are all 6mm (or 6.5mm).

Input caps are 22mm. Quality caps of that diameter and 470uF 200V are hard to find. There is no space for larger caps, C1 is blocked by the bridge rectifier and C2 by the heatshrinked Y caps between the input caps.

All right, I'm working on this again. Going to order replacement caps at the end of the week.

I have a "gutless wonder" power supply lying around. I was thinking if I could replace the Fortrons +12V schottky rectifier with the +5V schottky rectifier of the gutless supply. The part number is of the SB3040PT.

            Re: Repairing a FSP250-60GTV (PF)

It looks to me like you might not be able to easily transplant the diode. The fortron on is just a single diode, and the package only has 2 pins, while the replacement part has 2 diodes in it and has 3 pins. I don't know the specifics of the unit though, so maybe the original part is completely undersized and it has room for the big one. Just make sure to be careful when putting the new one in to make sure the polarity of the diodes are correct. A backwards diode will cause all sorts of problems.

About the caps - the only problem you might run into when replacing an 8mm with a 10mm is lead spacing. I believe most 8mm caps have lead spacing of 3.5mm, where 10mm caps have 5mm lead spacing. There might be some caps with the other lead spacing for applications like this, it's something to watch for when picking caps. Otherwise you can just bend the leads.

              I'v got FSP250-60GTV.
Can you please measure resistance between 5V rail and GND(can be even on molex). I've got burned +5V load resistor too, and it seems to have only 7 Ohms resistance. What is right value.

hello there, am also trying to repair my old FSP250-60GTV psu. nothing seems to be burnt, i've retraced the +5v rail on that big pink resistor but i get no power... the fan just starts spinning briefly for a second or so, and then it stops... when i try to short the "ps on" line and ground, fan spins for a second and then nothing happens after that.. i've checked all my caps and they seem ok.. no buldging/leaking/burnt whatsoever...

                thanking you guys in advance...

the caps dont need to bulge or leak to be bad - specially on something that old.

your description makes me think you have something shorted or the small caps are bad.

Look at the circuit trace under the circled resistor. The resistor has very little support, and the slightest movement can cause the circuit trace under it to break causing an open circuit. I fixed one of these by repairing the trace under this resistor.

Thanks for the reply guys, i resoldered the big resistor's connections and added wires to the path. All is working now but i dont quite have the right vvoltage. For the 12v rail, it only registers 11.1v and at the 5v rail, i only got about 4.2v. I tested this without any loads yet. Hope you guys could help me with this. Thanks in advance...

If you're at it,you may want to replace or just remove the 5v load resistor.

I have a FSP300-60GTP and while I was fixing it I removed the scorched 5v load resistor because it was scorched as hell. PSU works fine now, powers a Dual Core LGA775 setup I have as my main rig.

Sure and now has better probes too. English manual and warranty (we all know how it's with chinese and warranty, after the protection period from ebay or paypal runs out).

Dan81: or make flying-resistor mod. I suggest not messing with +3,3/+5 V resistor if you are going to use +12 V hungry system as it will put only a light load on those rails.

Hi, I'm Daniel, and I'm new to the world of repairing motherboards.

I would like to create a table, or more likely a guideline about the voltage rails and their possible resistance rail.

I know that the motherboard design has a very big depend on the rail's resistance, but I would like to know what is the smallest value for a rail that can be acceptable. For example, I heard that some new gaming motherboards can have 0,5 Ohm resistance on the GPU rail, but on an older type, it could be a sign of a shorted GPU rail.

So, I generated a table with AI so I can...

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

                                    Hello Everyone,

Long story short, I got this unit for very cheap.
I've started to experiment with it's BIOS, as I did before successfully with an M900. However my very bad quality SOIC clip broken while dumping of the biosof and it must have damaged something on the panel, because it does not turn on, and does exactly nothing when powered. The maximum voltage that could have affected something is the 3.3 or 5v from the IC clip, because the unit was not powered while the bios dumping was in progress.

                                    I've performed some measurements:
                                    - 20V rail perfectly...

Weird behavior on 3.3V rail of a CORSAIR CX600

                                    Hi,

A colleague gave me an apparently ill CORSAIR CX600.
He told me that he heard a banging noise, and smelt the magic smoke.
After tearing down the PSU, no burnt component, everything seems OK, but the PSU often refuses to stay ON. When shorting PS_ON to GND, the fan spins a bit a finally stops. No output voltages.

I tried to treat some apparently bad solder joins and finally it seems to work OK... on the 12V and 5V rails!
It's another story on the 3.3V rail...

I have some devices to test deeply PSUs (scope, AC source, electronic load)...
