Hi Guys got another project here and looking for your advice got a led mirror ball that stopped working so checked power board and doesn't have any voltage on the output side and idea where to check for faults cheers guys

Re: Led mirror Ball PSU with no power output

Did something leak the "magic smoke" when it died (do you smell magic smoke from the circuit?)

What's that TO-92 circuit, is it a transistor? Is it still good?

Are there any ICs underneath the transformer?

Re: Led mirror Ball PSU with no power output

Hi, there no magic smoke and no smell from the board the to-92 is 13001 S6B 0 2A 400V high-voltage transistor to-92 plug-in flying electron and the small transistor is a j37 which I can't find any info on.

      Any help much appreciated

Okay, looks like a 2-transistor switching supply. The 13001 is the switching transistor, did that burn out?

Usually the MJE13001 shorts and blows up.
But there is no fuse here, so I would check all parts for continuity. The transformer primary might have been the fuse...

          J3Y marking code is KST8050S

It looks like poor build, the transformer core isn't glued aligned and any problems with it make the circuit not work.

This thing looks cheaper than garbage! I'd honestly just try to replace it with a different, better quality power adapter. If the LEDs don't have resistors to limit the current, you might have to add those before using another power adapter.

That said, if you still want to try and fix this thing... my guess would be that the 13001 BJT probably either shorted or opened. If there is no fuse, it most likely went open-circuit, because TO-92 transistors can't really handle high currents and will easily blow their junction. Just remove it from the circuit and check it. If you don't see a normal forward diode reading between Base and Emitter/Collector pins or any reading out of circuit between Emitter and Collector pins, it's likely bad.

How to comment momaka, look for a good quality replacement. That PSU is manufactured thinking of the cheapest and saving costs. That PSU is a danger.

I would also check the ( M7 ) diode I have seen a few of fail open and some of them short

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
                  by PantherDave
                  Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                  Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue

                  Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

Global AC logic output - XP Power FleXPower
                  by tony359
                  Hi all

I've fixed a couple of FleXPower X7 power supplies. Since they have some logic outputs, I went to test them to make sure all was in order.
"Fan Fail" would work when the fan is manually stopped.
"Global DC" would change state when I manually adjusted one rail beyond 10%

"Global AC" doesn't seem to do anything. To test, I power up the PSU and then I remove power. The 5VSB and Aux rails remain active for quite a few seconds after power is removed. I see the rails collapsing but there is no change in the "Global AC"...
