    PlayStation 4 ADP-200ER PSU repair

Hi, I have a power supply for a PlayStation 4 1200 series model ADP-200ER I'm wanting to repair for experience and save the price of buying a refurbished one on eBay and missing out on the experience and fun of doing it myself.

It had a small amout of cockroaches in it from the previous owner (fortunately they were gone when I got it) and they have shorted the PSU blowing the fuse, there is a small amount of roach debris on the output end of the board but no visible burns or damage anywhere, it looks physically ok.

I'm hoping that just the fuse is blown from possible pins being crossed by a roach and no damaged components but instead of buying a replacement fuse just for it to blow if there is damaged components, how do I go about testing a PSU with my multimeter to make sure everything looks good before replacing the fuse? I have never done PSU repair or testing before. Thanks

Ok the first thing you need to do is get your self a 100 watt incandescent light bulb and socket with a pigtail and put where the fuse was an see if the unit will power ON

If the light bulb stay very bright you have a short some where
If the unit power ON then it might be safe to a fuse in and see what happens that way

Please be careful doing this work you are working with live main power voltage

If you do not have a power cord with outlet that has an on and off switch that is fused you should make one they come in handy

Let us know the results of this testing thanks

      1) Unit not plugged into outlet.
      2) Measure the DC Voltage between the to legs of that big main filter cap laying on its side to see if it still has Voltage on it or not just to be sure, there should be no Voltage on it otherwise you will have to discharge the cap with resistor.
      3) Check the resistance between the two legs of that cap, report the reading.

Hi, the voltage was 30.5mV and the resistance went up quickly then said O.L, afterwards it was at 130.5mV and showed 4.25m ohms

I've found where the short happened, doesn't look too bad. I'm setting up the bulb trick now to test.

From looks of it it-looks correct but it also look like you have a short in this power supply if that light bulb is that bright

I would follow what Budm has said in his earlier post

Check the resistance between the Source pin and the Drain pin of that Q6.

Now that looks like there might be a problem there in that section check parts for short and if necessary remove them to test them

What part are those where the solder has fallen out ?
What are the ohms reading of those parts ?

On that photo can you crop out everything out but the board once you have done this if you can not read the parts number on the board retake the photo thanks

With cap discharged, resistance quickly goes up to about 30 ohms then says O.L.

Looks like that MOSFET is shorted - at least in circuit. Remove from PSU and test resistance of the MOSFET pins again. If you still get 0.2 Ohms or some equally low reading between pins 2 and 3, then the MOSFET is bad. Additionally, if you get any resistance at all from the Gate (pin 1, looks like) to either pin 2 or 3, that's also a likely indication that the MOSFET is bad (in a MOSFET, the Gate is electrically insulated from both Source and Drain, so it should NOT show any resistance to those pins at all).

If you have Gate to Drain shorts then you will need to replace the IC that drives the Gate also, plus you need to test all the parts between Gate drive output and the Gate too, otherwise you may end up blowing your new MOSFET.

Took the MOSFET out of circuit and same results, I still get the 0.2 ohms reading, and yes there is resistance on pin 1 between the others of around 1.8 k ohms, so the MOSFET is bad, what else do I check before replacing the bad MOSFET? Also, what markings are important to find a replacement?

you check/replace the parts feeding the gate pin.

Looks like resistors R99, R98, and diode D63 at the very least.
R99 should read 10 KOhms or less in circuit (or not more than 5% over 10k).
R98 looks like a 51 Ohm resistor. Again, it should read 51 Ohms or less.
D63 may or may not show a diode reading both ways, depending on what's in parallel with it. But it looks like there isn't anything, so if you get a good diode reading one way and nothing (infinite/open) the other way, then it's probably fine.

There may be more things that could have been damaged downstream, but it's unlikely.

As for the markings on the MOSFET: look for a 24N60M2. This is what I found:

                                        Looks like it's rated for 650V, 18 Amp, and 0.19 Ohms Rds_on

Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
                                          The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

Hi I wonder if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have this Samsung UE46ES8000 TV and it went bang during use. The main fuse on the PSU board is open. I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...

Help replacing fuse on my Mimaki CJV300-160 vinyl printer
                                          by jshhh
                                          Hi guys,

I'm inexperienced with electronics repairs, I've done a little bit of soldering caps and whatnot, but i have a blown fuse on this mimaki printer I got which I have bought a replacement for.

How do I remove this type of fuse (see picture)...it kinda looks like it would pull out of that bracket but it didn't come at first pull and I didn't want to brute force it incase it's soldered on there like most of the rest of the components.

Anybody know how to remove this type of fuse?

(The fuse is toward the bottom of the image labeled F2)...

Argon SA1 audio amplifier power-supply - fuse blown after fixing the short?
                                          by Babbar
I found a project in the electronics trash yesterday. A nice Argon SA1 audio amp with some electrical issue. Took it apart and saw that the 4A250V fuse was blown so started lifting components to find the short. Eventually got to two MOSFETs (model FTA14N50C) that are shorted and when i took them out the short was gone.

Now i didn't have any replacements of the same model of course but i found a couple with pretty similar spec i thought (K10A60D & K12A50D) and put them in. Also replaced the blown fuse with a 3.5A250V one. Checked another time for short circuit and plugged it in....

                                          by drykid
                                          Hi,

I recently picked up a used Matsui 175S microwave that was powering up (starts, turntable rotates) but not heating. From looking online the most likely culprit was the fuse, but unfortunately in this one the fuse had heated up and fused with the (badly designed) fuse holder and couldn't be removed. I guess this might indicate further issues beyond the fuse itself but at this stage I just want to replace the fuse and see how I go from there.

Anyway since I couldn't get out the fuse itself the easiest fix was to replace the fuse holder assembly that runs between the...
