but i bet this will rear its ugly head again soon.shortly after you declare it "fixed" and return it.
Definitely not a contact issue, since the volts didn't drop to 0 entirely to signal a bad connection - they fluctuated and tried going up but dropped again, as if too much load was applied.

That could still be bad contacts. I've seen this happen quite a few times with experimental circuits where I got lazy and didn't use proper alligator clips to run power - the voltage on the meter would jump up and down as if my power source was failing (and it wasn't - it was just the poor connections causing the problem).

So perhaps tighten the pins on that "faulty" PSU, especially the 5VSB wire and ground around it.

The only other thing I can think of why the "faulty" PSU was acting up is if the motherboard was somehow making the 5VSB oscillate due to unstable loading. But I think the chances of that are very slim (probably close to impossible).

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

          Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Variable DC Power Supply cannot boot motherboard
          by Bonaventure Vigil
          Hi there,
Guys anyone here can help me. During troubleshoot the motherboard, my 1st and new psu unable to boot the motherboard. Even though i set the 20V, my old Compaq CQ42 motherboard had the led white light at charging port. When press on button, the led blinking to red and gone back to white state. But i change the oem hp compaq adapter which is i measure 19.45V. Using that can boot the motherboard and fan spinning. Then i reconnect psu and tried set the 19.45V, still blinking red. Anyone know what happen? Is it psu not compatible? All is check and voltage is there....

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Asus ROG Strix Scar G533qm with a G733qm Motherboard, can I modify the Bios to accept G533 Bios
          by glovecaps
          Hello,

I have a Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 (G533QM) that had a dead motherboard (Graphics card dead) and after trying to fix the motherboard with no success, I bit the bullet on a sale for a new motherboard. I ordered a motherboard for the 15 inch model which is the one that I have, and when the motherboard arrived it wasn't for a little while that I saw it was from the 17 inch model.

My question is, can I update the Bios on this G733 motherboard to a G533 Bios.

The reason for wanting to do this is that the keyboard isn't working as it should, and I think this...
