I don't do repair depot work, so I don't have your volume of experience. However, I support many clients and draw upon that experience:

Every PSU that dies has bad caps.
Every dead mother board has a PSU with bad caps.
The most virulent killers are Antec and Bestec.

      Re: Samxon question

The biggest mistake I se with people saying xxx hard drives are better than yyy hard drives is they blow off looking at the models they are comparing.

      That's like:
The Chevy Vega I had was a POS so all Chevy's suck.
The The Lincoln Continental was fantastic so all Fords are great.

      That's just stupid thinking.

Same same with "I've seen more dead Vegas than Linclons.
      - Ya think maybe they MADE MORE of the cheap one?

Maxtor has sold Cubic Butt-Tons of lower end drives with a 1-ish Year warranty.
      - They are lower end and higher volume so more show up faled. (DUH!)

It's not legit to compare them to another make with a 3 or 5 Year warranty.
      - They aren't the same class of drives.

Try comparing Maxtors with a 3-5 year warranty to drives of other makes with a comparable warranty.
      - THAT would be useful information.

If you aren't looking at it that way then your Brand-Quality conclusions are just as bogus as the Vega-Linclon comparision.

        - They aren't the same class of drives.
        yes they were same class.
they had same warranty(it failed after a year and a half which means it had 3 year warranty) and same price as other mfr whose drives lasted 2-3x more.

about how much they sell: dunno how much they sold, but they'll be selling less after such results.
if everybody is saying "stay away from maxtor" it cannot be good for them.

there WAS a problem with maxtor; sure other mfrs had problems too, but not as much.
i mean what odds are to have 2 successive drives from same mfr that fail withing same(short) span?
on web forums one can find stories of people buying (for example) 4 maxtor drives and all failing within first year....
so my case doesn't sound like freak accident anymore...

          Re: Samxon question

I had recapped many PSUs with Samxons and with great sucess and extremly low resulting ripple from them - when I finally droped my mad ideas about using ceramic caps instead of the small electrolyte caps and such.
Another crazy idea is to use hi-rated Samxon GA/GC caps in PSU Especially mixed GA with RS on other rail produce "extraordinary results" -HoNY- can tell

Samxons GD at most for the output, Samxons RS for all the small caps.

Some examples was posted there at BadCaps, but thanks for the Slibe.com the images are lost and thanks for not be able to edit them back, images are gone. Some was recoveded there, tough:

          http://capsmod.net/forum/viewthread....extra=page%3D1
          http://capsmod.net/forum/viewthread....extra=page%3D1

PS. for the input caps, I like Panny TS-ED much more, as they have excelent high ripple specs. But that is a issue only when come to PSUs over like 450W.

          Just my two cents.

Can I replace KME cap with Samxon GF cap?
            by chth96
            Hello.
I have 29inch LG CRT TV,And Yesterday,Whenever I connect AC power cord to power outlet without switch on, I heard a sound like white noise, And When I switched on this CRT TV, It sometime displayed correctly But usually It won't last more than 20 minute and The screen begin to dark and It finally did not display at all for hours..
Today,I dismantled its plastic case and discharged the biggest capacitor(400wv 470uf) which still holds 250 voltage, and I finally detached PCB from cathode-ray tube.
I measured ESR value of most of caps in PCB with MESR-100 and I found that KME(25v...

Dell 9310 (2-in-1) bios to fore manufacturing mode
            by jlxxxx
I have read the FAQ, and other reference here to changing the EC region of the flash image to force entering manufacturing mode.
How would I modify the dell 9310 firmware in order to force entering manufacturing mode? The goal is to have the computer ask me to enter the service tag after changing the motherboard.
Can this be completed using the boot-up USB restore method that Dell supports in order to reduce risk of damaging the hardware further? (Ctrl+Esc keys while holding the power button)
Dell provides this bios here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/dri...

LG L1715s with failed Samxon GF
            by goodpsusearch
Found monitor on my way home sitting on the pavement.

This monitor stopped working due to Samxon GF failing.

One of the caps even changed color to black from overheating. Notice that even the rubber bangs deformed from venting/overheating

It is just stupid to put caps right above secondary rectifiers and heatsink that get very hot during monitor operation.

Those 17" monitors can be found in working condition for less than 10 euros or even for free!

So, I recapped it using terrible caps and tried to install extra...
