    Mge ups 500va

    Hi folks,

I have a problem with this little ups I use on my desktop pc at the office.
It happened overnight , one evening I went and next day nothing comes up
from this unit. I press the power button it beeps some relay clicks and shuts off immediately. My (wrong) first guess was that the battery went dead (it was more than two years that I've changed it, but the same thing happens with a brand new battery. No output voltage just a beep and a relay click. The battery seems to be charging though , cause if you plug it in the mains without a battery no voltage come on the battery connectors but if you connect the battery, the unit makes a beep all leds flash and then voltage comes on the battery terminals.

I'ts just my lucky device and looking for a way not to throw it away if possible.

"The battery seems to be charging though , cause if you plug it in the mains without a battery no voltage come on the battery connectors" There should be DCV at the terminals (without battery in place) that go to the batteries the minute you plug the UPS power cord into the AC outlets, the charging is always active.
Is this the unit you have?

See page 4 of the attached PDF of the user manual.

So any LED status blinking codes as shown?

let me repeat my actions in the right order :

          Dead unit,
          replace battery ,
plug in mains cord and press the power button,
Unit beeps shortly all the leds are flashing once and one of the relays clicks also.
It immediately shuts , if you press the on switch again the all leds flash unit beeps the relay clicks. From there on nothing else happens until you remove
the mains cord or the battery.

Then I open the unit remove battery , plug in to mains power.
No voltage on battery terminals , if I plug the battery back , the previous
sequence of events happens again but this time charging voltage appears
on battery terminals, ( I can tell because after that I remove the battery again and measure 13,8V at the battery terminals).

It all seems at the unit sees some problem in the output and shuts down immediately. Removing the battery resets the circuit (that's why I suppose the leds flashes and the unit beeps when I press the power button).

There is no power in the output at any time.

Hope this is more clear now.

            Re: Mge ups 500va

            OK, do this for me.
            1) Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
            2) Unplug the battery from the unit.
            3) Put the DCV meter's Red probe on the terminal of the red wire that WAS attached to the battery.
            4) Put the DCV meter's Black probe on the Black terminal of the Black wire that WAS attached to the battery.

            5) Plug the UPS into the AC outlet but DO NOT TURN ON the power switch, notice if you do hear the relay clicks or not.
            6) Look at the DCV meter to see what is shown on the meter.
            7) Turn on the power switch and take notes if the relay clicks or not. Look at the DCV meter to see what is shown on the meter.

The UPS has only one ALWAYS ON (meaning it is running the minute you plug the power cord into the AC outlet WITHOUT turning on the power switch on the front panel) SMPS power supply that is used for charging the battery and for running the logic and related circuits.

"Then I open the unit remove battery , plug in to mains power.
No voltage on battery terminals , if I plug the battery back , the previous
sequence of events happens again but this time charging voltage appears
on battery terminals, ( I can tell because after that I remove the battery again and measure 13,8V at the battery terminals)."

The reason you see the 13.8V on the terminal AFTER you connect and disconnect the battery because those two large filter caps are conected to the battery terminals and they are charged when you connect the battery to the terminals and they stay charge after the battery is removed. The charging Voltage should be present without the battery in place.

              Re: Mge ups 500va

              Good day

I did as you asked and :
Step 5 and 6 nothing is shown on the meter , no clicks from the ups relays nothing

Step 7 Nothing happens here either. The unit is dead without a battery . The power switch is just a push button and with out power from the battery ( as I understand now, after you pointed it out ) nothing happens when you press it.

The previous behaviour was due to fact that the PCB got power from the battery, it senses something is wrong and shuts down .

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

ASUS X571 no power : battery issue?
                by mkdj
                Hello everyone,

                Mark and model: ASUS X571
Symptoms: not turning on. There is only the LED battery indicator working. The owner of the laptop told me this problem arrived one week after having changed the battery. He then managed to power on the laptop only once, and then it never powered on again.

                Tests already made:
                - Battery is charging when laptop is plugged in. The LED battery indicator turns white after a couple of hours of charge, indicating that battery is fully charged. However, laptop won't turn on anyway, with or without AC plug.
                - I have removed...

Vostro 3400 (LA-K033P) won't charge battery, everything else ok
                by techfreak9356
I bought a Vostro 3400 motherboard (LA-K033P) to upgrade over my damaged Inspiron 5593 (LA-J091P) board. Everything else is ok except for the battery. This battery I am using now is already a replacement one since I disposed of the bloated original one. Back in the Inspiron 5593 motherboard, the battery charges fine and is identified just fine. However, with the upgraded motherboard, suddenly the replacement battery is labeled as "Not a dell battery". When I borrow a similar battery from my colleague (which did not have replacements yet), it is identified and charges just fine.

                Repair Success! Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP
                by valvashon
Yesterday I successfully repaired a Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP that had inadvertently been used as a surge suppressor at our transmitter site. It has already been replaced with an updated one but it's coming home with me now instead of being e-cycled. To be specific, this is the MA model that has the blue backlit display and has been discontinued, although this design may have been used in many UPS units including the smaller Middle Atlantic ones in this series.

Here's what happened: We experienced a brownout/surge at the site, which damaged the UPS and took our broadcasting...

The ISL88739 & ISL88739AHRZ are a highly versatile combo battery charger
configurable for operating as either a Hybrid Power Boost (HPB)
charger or a Narrow VDC (NVDC) charger, supporting 2-, 3-, or
