Re: Mge ups 500va
Good day
I did as you asked and :
Step 5 and 6 nothing is shown on the meter , no clicks from the ups relays nothing
Step 7 Nothing happens here either. The unit is dead without a battery . The power switch is just a push button and with out power from the battery ( as I understand now, after you pointed it out ) nothing happens when you press it.
The previous behaviour was due to fact that the PCB got power from the battery, it senses something is wrong and shuts down .

Re: Mge ups 500va
let me repeat my actions in the right order :
Dead unit,
replace battery ,
plug in mains cord and press the power button,
Unit beeps shortly all the leds are flashing once and one of the relays clicks also.
It immediately shuts , if you press the on switch again the all leds flash unit beeps the relay clicks. From there on nothing else happens until you remove
the mains cord or the battery.
Then I open the unit remove battery , plug in to mains power.
No voltage on battery terminals , if...

Mge ups 500va
Hi folks,
I have a problem with this little ups I use on my desktop pc at the office.
It happened overnight , one evening I went and next day nothing comes up
from this unit. I press the power button it beeps some relay clicks and shuts off immediately. My (wrong) first guess was that the battery went dead (it was more than two years that I've changed it, but the same thing happens with a brand new battery. No output voltage just a beep and a relay click. The battery seems to be charging though , cause if you plug it in the mains without a battery no voltage come on...

Re: Windows XP End of Life Approaching
I couldn't agree more, funny thing is that even M$ didn't support XP64 (perhaps a way to draw us into Vista and 7 64bit) I had a microsoft fingerprint reader from a client and the 64bit driver is still coming........

Re: Test Primary of SMPS with scope
You're right , I already told you. It's better to spend some money to get a decent new scope.

FL Inverter cable
Hi,
I have this Fujitsu Laptop (Amilo Pi 1505) and the cable for the Inverter board
(the dc input from the laptop ) is broken. Where can one find such parts ?
The photos are from my phone and are not clear enough but both ends have 4 pin connections with slight different connectors. I will try later to take pictures from a camera. The cable length is 35cm....

Yes I was reading that also yesterday, seems decent enough for it's price

Re: Test Primary of SMPS with scope
I also saw this little item here Pintek DP-25 Differential Probe which seems to be affordable for amateur use (all other diff probes I found go in more than 400 hundred range for some mysterious reason... ). What do you guys think ?
I will look into transformer workshop as you suggested (I already asked in electronic shops and found 50 to 60 euros for 500 VA transformers).Last edited by stepgr; 11-02-2013, 12:20 PM.

Re: Test Primary of SMPS with scope
Can you give an estimate since we both seem to be in the same country ?
I don't think I'll need more than 500W, my main items to test are PC PSU's
and in general IT PSU's no grater than 400W (from lcd monitors etc).
Also the x100 probe is a must from what I understand in all your answers.
Again thank you all guys for providing useful information (and safety) ....

Test Primary of SMPS with scope
Hi all,
can someone explain in a simple (if possible ) way , how to measure the primary (hot) side of an power supply without burning the scope or the PSU ?
From reading various posts in here I came to the following procedure :
1. Use an isolation transformer on the PSU and then connect the probes ground
on the hot ground on the PSU and the probe wherever I want in the primary side.
OR
2. Use a dual channel scope in add or subtract mode without the need of an isolation transformer, connecting the two probes ground together...

Re: 3COM Switch
I have the same switch and after a power failure it doesn't start anymore. I also replaced the 3844 but didn't work. I'm going to check this cap you mentioned , 4 years ago but thanks!

Re: Sony SDM-HP94P
this is an attempt to show you how the board is organized. Capacitors C132 and C130 seem to be OK (I've replaced them also ). The capacitor C131 is SMD can't read anything on it and the resistor R131 in series with C132 is also SMD and reads 6R8 and multimeter read it 7K without the capacitor on board . All diodes and Zeners seem to work OK and C115 is a small blue tantalium I gues anyway it reads 102K 1KV 48 ! . I still can't figure out how the circuit starts !...

Re: Sony SDM-HP94P
I did that already if you read my first post (that's how I know that the ESR is low , at least
according to the blue esr meter table which says that a cap at 47mf 50 V is between 1 and 0.6 Ohms and mine reads lower than that) !
Sorry if my English are bad...

Re: Sony SDM-HP94P
These are the voltages of the IC with regard with the hot ground :
C = 0V
L = 3,73V
S = HOT GROUND
X = 0,320V
D = 306 V
pins L and X are driven from the possitive side of main capacitor through a series
of resistors the ones who produce 3,73 V are marked 4753 and there are four in series
and the 0,320V are four again reading 245.
