      How did the sleeves melt?
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

My computer doubles as a space heater.

We're you using the mouse when you smelled melting rubber and realized it was the mouse?

The rubber was probably degraded over time from the acids in skin oils.

i'v seen it happen to joypad-caps, tv-remote backs, screwdrivers ec.
              it's probably interaction with skin-oil.

I use PS/2 on one of my 3 workstations (the beefy twin CPU kind)... because it only has two USB's in the back and that it seems POST a lot slower with USB + legacy support enabled. My other two have four USB's in the back so they have USB keyboards; one has a really special one too, the one microsoft made with a fingerprint scanner, with 3rd party x64 drivers/patched software.
