bad caps on Antec Truepower 380s?

i have a home built pc with Antec Sonata mid tower case that just died, it comes with a Antec Truepower 380w Power supply.

when i turned on the PC power, immediately there was a loud noise coming from PC, like a fan hitting something hard, also the pc gave off a burning smell. afterwards pc went dead.

i took out the Power supply and opened it up for a look. there are brown stuff everywhere, like something exploded inside. the two big capacitors also leaked at the bottom.

can this unit still be fixed?

That yellow stuff is glue used to hold down the caps prior to solder bath.

The yellow glue can become conductive, especially when it turns brownish. The glue may have shorted something.

Clean it up and see what blew up and replace that and it should work.

you need to clean all that brown glue off,
and take some focussed foto's of all of the board - preferably including the underside.

while your at it, use your finger to see if the fan blades still turn smoothly.

Yup, that's all glue. check the caps on the other side of the PSU, though. Those will almost definitely be bad if it's a few years old.

No. This one is a Truepower, not an Earthwatts.

Check ALL caps, even the small 1uF 50V caps I've seen fail. And check the snubber resistor on the primary behind the input caps, those run hot
