Hi everyone, hope all of You are having a good day. I have a Question from protections in some of this PSU brands and models: Dell Optiplex series 745 to 380 to 390 to 7040 - HP EliteDesk series - And some new Lenovo minitower series. I don't know how to find info. about their protections [ OVP (Over voltage protection) - OCP (Over Current Portection) - OPP (Over power protection) - SCP (Short Circuit Protection) - short - OTP (Over temperature Protection)], some Internet's friend told me that Delta company buids to this brands, but not lists that information if that the client request that protections or not. In consecuence he told me that I must dissasembly the PSU and search for an specific chip to know what type of protection it has, if it has. If that the case: Can You tell me about what chip fo find? Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Anything based on forward converter topology (many of those Dell and HP OEM PSUs) will have OPP on the primary.
OCP may or may not be present, and maybe only on the 12V rail... but for the most part, these are relatively modern PSUs and DO have OCP usually.
OTP is the only one that is not always included in the design. For that one, you do really need to open the PSU, look at the ICs inside, and also see how the thermistor for the temperature pickup is wired - it could only be used for speed control of the fan, or it could also be used for OTP + fan control.
As far as manufacturers behind these OEM PSUs: Delta is not the sole manufacturer. Other ones are likely to be LiteON, HiPro/Chicony, AcBel, and maybe even Bestec and FSP.

Are you talking about the supervisor IC? something like a Weltrend 7525? A supervisor IC is to find on the secondary. It's connected back to the primary via an optocoupler to the PWM. This way if something is off, the supervisor IC can shut the PSU down. If you look at one of my old threads about a PowerMan IP power supply, you can see how that thing works and how to override the supervisor IC and force the PSU to stay on. All you need to find is the FPOB (fault protection pin) and see if the state is high (5V) or low (0V). If the state of the pin is high the supervisor had shut the PWM down.

Hi Cap! Thanks for reply back! Do You refer to this post??: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...-it-works-fine. I was searching in Your profile, and suscribed of course. So, if that IC is the cause about the protections I've mentioned before, then I have to dissasembly that PSUs and search for them. You gave me a lot of work! Thanks!
. As I can see there aren't many info. about this topic arround the Internet. So if I find any useful I'll do a post.

Most of the time you won't find a perfect schematic. You just have to understand how the PSU and the power protection works. They are not all created equal.Last edited by CapLeaker; 03-03-2025, 05:10 AM.
