How does this look? It is an inexpensive Chinese unit, rated for 240W continuous. Usable?

It will probably do its rated power, but unfortunately provides only 15A combined power for 12V. It could be used in a Pentium 3 or AMD (before Athlon 64) system or a not energy demanding P4 / Core 2 PC.

It will run Fine upto Pentium 4 Without AGP or PCI_E and Internal TV Tuner . But not suitable for Dual Core .

The wattage rating looks honest! I didn't expect that with a Chinese generic brand! The ratings are often inflated to 450 W and the like!

It depends heavily on the bulk storage, the primary silicon, and the secondary silicon. Those heatsinks and that EI-33 transformer don't look great, and neither does that passive PFC mounted to the primary side as it blocks airflow to that area (I think the +5V/+12V toroid could look better as well). I would call it a 200W unit safely. It looks like it uses a two transistor +5VSB circuit, also...

The heatsinks are actually pretty good for 250W. I have seen units do 300W with thinner heatsinks than those.

The EL-33 main trafo is absolutely capable of 250W.

We are talking about 250W here. Not 350W.

One thing to remember also, is that when the fan is wired directly to the 12V, these things do surprisingly well since they usually move a lot of air. If the silicon is good enough I bet it could do over 250W no problem (Especially is the OP is on 230V). Nice to see it even has PI filters because a lot of units can do 250W with ripple in spec with two caps per rail and no coil, although I always prefer they use a coil.

Introducing the little brother of the Chinese generic unit PP345EAA: the PP330EDA. Is lighter on the input filtering (only one coil) as well as output filtering (no pi filter coils and smaller caps). Can this unit safely deliver its claimed ratings (only 10W on 12V rail) with ripple in spec? Appreciate any thoughts.

First one will work much better if you will clean it! Also take fan apart, clean it, and oil it.

Like goodpsusearch, I would say that if it does, it would be barely in spec. Probably not good for your motherboard and hard drives in the long term. Not unless you add the missing caps and coils. I also suggest checking the part number on the 12V rectifier, though, and post it here. If it really is a 10A rectifier, then you could probably run a very low end Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual core that is rated for less than 60W TDP (check your CPU model with CPU-world.com to see how many Watts TDP it is rated for).

As for the first PSU you posted way back - that one appears more capable. Again, it depends on what rectifier uses for the 12V rail... but if it's 16A or higher, you can probably run up to a 80W TDP CPU and mid-end graphics card around 50W TDP (i.e. GeForce 7600, 8600, 9600, or ATI X1650, X2600, etc.).
