Re: Bubalus PP345EAA (240W continuous)
Introducing the little brother of the Chinese generic unit PP345EAA: the PP330EDA. Is lighter on the input filtering (only one coil) as well as output filtering (no pi filter coils and smaller caps). Can this unit safely deliver its claimed ratings (only 10W on 12V rail) with ripple in spec? Appreciate any thoughts....

Element Power EP-500 BR
How would you rate the quality of this PSU? It is relatively inexpensive. Some pics are at: http://www.highpower-tech.com/eng/product_page.php?class=20100527154213&id=20110523154415#awardhttps://How would you rate the quali...15#award

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
OK, so I should add pi filter coils on the secondary and change all the caps. Do I need pi filter coils of any particular specification, or can I just rip them from another power supply? Also, on the transient filter, what do I need to add? It appears to have one coil, two X caps and two Y caps in place. Thank you for your advice.

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
Forgot to post the power ratings. Is it safe to use it in a 200W system? Eg. Pentium Dual Core (E5400, 45nm), integrated graphics, 2 sticks of DDR2 RAM, 1x SATA 7200rpm hard drive, 1x DVD-RW drive and a 12cm case fan?...

Bubalus PP345EAA (240W continuous)
How does this look? It is an inexpensive Chinese unit, rated for 240W continuous. Usable?...

Delta Serverpower 450W Ex (CAA-450BT A) went pop...
Delta Serverpower 450W Ex (CAA-450BT A). Was browsing the Web on my Ivy Bridge system when there was a loud pop from the power supply and the system shut down. I do not recall any smoke coming from the unit. I took it apart but there is no sign of damage. I think only the fuse blew. I would like to identify the problem that caused the fuse to blow. Any ideas? It has only been in use for less than two years....

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2
Liteon PS-5251-08 250W, taken out of a HP desktop. Has only been in operation for less than 500 hours despite being 3 years old. No visible sign of damage.
However the system it was powering would intermittently fail to POST. It would happen sometimes for a few days, sometimes giving POST beep codes, and at other times be fine for weeks. Problem has not come back after replacing the PSU with a Delta ActivePower 400W unit (several weeks ago). System is only a Pentium Dual Core (65W) with integrated graphics and 1 HDD,...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
2theMax SV350. Appears to be very similar in design and components to the VP350R of the same brand (see my earlier post #325) except this one has two fans. 1 bulged + 1 leaking Teapo caps. Is this causing the high-pitched squeal emitted by the unit when it is in standby?...

Re: Strange problem with HD5850 graphics card
Yes I have tried it in half a dozen different systems - the same problem arises in each.

Strange problem with HD5850 graphics card
My Sapphire HD5850 graphics card refuses to work without a physical "support" - please see attached photo (the green highlighter which I have jammed in between the card and the case bottom). This is needed regardless of whether the system lies in a horizontal or vertical orientation (so I do not think it is an issue of the card being too heavy causing the PCB to bend). Any ideas on what could be causing the problem and how to fix it? Many thanks....

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial. part 2
I picked up this Huntkey GS-LW-6550HG for about US$10. It says peak power of 550W on the label. How does it look? The capacitors on the secondary (Fcon and KSC) are hidden under those cables. I am worried that this may severely restrict the airflow from the fan onto the caps. Should I try to re-route those cables?...

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
Referring back to my earlier post #412: I finally got around to recapping this FSP unit, however now it does not start up! I think it used to start up before I recapped it. What should I check for - a blown fuse or a short somewhere? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: the gutless, bloated, and fried power supply hall of shame
To add EMI filtering, can I just add X capacitors from random (junk) power supplies? I will take a closer look at the ratings of some of the components later.
I had a peek inside my Bestec 250W which is working fine except for some fan noise. I noticed a lot of the caps are not soldered on close to the PCB - the leads stand up off the board (see pic attached). Does this matter?...
