When you jump start it, check The voltage of the grey wire on pin 8 (PW_GOOD.sigpic

Re: Power Supply Problem
Often in the beginning of a capacitor problem in the PSU, it can turn on and run with no load but can't stay stable with a load (motherboard, etc, connected) so it shuts off within milliseconds after turned on. Take the lid off the PSU and look for bad (vented) caps.Comment

Re: Power Supply Problem
"I opened it and i see this. is this the problem? sorry i dont have a HD Camera".
I dont see anything wrong in the picture- try one less close up
"I found a old power supply. It has the same problem. and I saw this. Is this causing the problem? and what part is that? I dont know what it is called."
The coil part is a Toroid Inductor or Choke. They are usually very stable and
do not cause problems. My guess it has been damaged by association with other components possible the ones on the heatsink. Or it has had liquid spilt on it when working.Last edited by selldoor; 06-02-2012, 02:54 AM.Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Re: Power Supply Problem
When a power supply dies as in manner of the picture you have shown, its pretty much ready for the garbage because even if you could find a suitable replacement the power supply is likely to have many more serious problems.Comment

Re: Power Supply Problem
About the other PSU you pictured. It's a generic brand (Rise) claiming 600W that seems very low quality. Look at the bridge rectifier diodes, they are 3 amp rated at most. <> 600W
Even if the unit is operating within its intended design capability, it may simply not be able to supply sufficient inrush current to get the system rails stable in time on power-on.
Your best bet is to abandon both PSU and find something that's better quality.Comment

by JimBanvilleThe sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...-

Last night we had a power outage [ long drawn out trying three to come back up before going out completely ] and when I went to turn the DVR camera recorder back today no go 3 bad capacitors ( one capacitor no ESR reading on DVR board the other 3 capacitor on the power supply board over 40 ohm this is not a misprint ) on the external switching power supply and one capacitor on the DVR camera recorder board where the power supply that goes to the hard drive disk is
Well at least I have the cameras back on line I to try the... -
by sam_sam_samWhen I originally started with my DVR recorder it had 4 individual switching switching power supply’s that were sh*t so I bought a 7 amp 12 volt switching power supply and modified the output plug and put a four output power supply cable to match the input power supply cable inputs
Which worked for over 14 years until a few days ago when the cameras went dark no picture anymore well it turns out now the switching power supply has stopped working altogether now so I have to troubleshoot what has happened to this power supply more later on today what I found
