    Re: new/ used psu suggestions

Color coding is one reason. I think that color coding is important. With no color coding, was this psu wired to standard ATX configuration? At first I thought some novice was using speaker cable for reasons unknown on a home project - yet the job looks too nice to be one of those screwed up jobs. I just wasn't sure about the wiring, and didn't really have a good reason to fix it up. I have too many projects as it is! So PM me a mailing address and I will work on finding a box and shipping it to you next week.

Since you live in New Albany, I might mention that I went to electronics tech school for two years at United Electronics Institute in Shively, just south of you on the Kentucky side.

      Re: new/ used psu suggestions

Just ran a quick check on it.

5vsb no load measures 5.15 volts

12 volt (molex) with 12 ohm 2 amp load measures 12.31 volts

12 volt (4 pin cpu) with 12 ohm 2 amp load measures 12.32 volts

5 volt with 2.5 ohm 2 amp load measures 5.17 volts

3.3 volt with 1.65 ohms 2 amp load measures 3.40 volts

Both fans never turned a twitch

That is only a 40 watt load for a 600 watt power supply, but at least it indicates a good starting point.

Delta DPS400RB. Cheaper than what you're looking at and much better:
        http://www.hypermicro.com/ProductDes...LY-BULK&key=it

370forlife recommended it to me about a year back. It's running my main rig and it's just a nice quiet no-BS PSU that gets the job done. Plenty of SATA connectors, a PCI-E connector, 120mm temperature controlled fan. It runs cool, quiet, and is very stable (what else would you expect from Delta?).

EDIT: My bad, didn't see that you found one already. The DPS-400RB is still a great deal though. IMO it might almost be better than the AcBel (quieter and has more SATA connectors).

i was wondering where that model went... if the blue box doesn't work for whatever reason, that will be plan B (this main rig will be a much quieter rig than the one the acbel went into.

$45 shipped. $30 after rebate. I've never had a problem with antec rebates. 5 sata and 4 molex connectors on it.

i have one on the way, due to an issue requiring moderaor intervention, the annocement got ommited.

everell is sending me this power supply:
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12683
which I will recap. if for whatever reason it does not work, I will go with the 400w delta from hypermicro.com (antec is overpriced junk compared to the delta).

Little boys (and older men) just love to get outside and play in the snow. So went over to Staples and put your psu's in the UPS station. Should arrive Wednesday afternoon...unless slowed down by snow.

I just checked the ups website with the tracking number. It arrived in Clarksville this morning at 5:30, and went out for delivery at 7:30 this morning. So BOLO (be on look out) for UPS trucks!

the blue's original owner must have smoked... it has the "smell". no biggie, but noted.

i am opening the blue one now...

edit- the blue units heatsinks are anodized aluminum... it also has a lot of furballs in it, pet hair city. yellow glue as well... it will need a cleaning.

                              on to the black...

the black unit was much cleaner... it has the biggest fan i have seen other than a coolermaster fan the with of a case. 135mm... dang. i will see how many caps i can replace with it... the blue unit will sit for a while, since it seems better suited for a windowed case... i will eventually recap it as well and find a use for it.

thanks a bunch everell... you rock!

the blue one is chromed not painted. i saw a copper layer under the blue where it was scratched. not to mention it has a shiny mirrored chrome-like finish. the cables also stand out so putting in a non-windowed case would be kinda "lame". i read somewhere that they look really cool under black light.

i might see if i can make the wires on it look right with some cleaning... they stink of nicotine.

the black one: I got all but 4 caps replaced... the 4 i did not have were:

                                        2x 3300uf 16v
                                        1x 4700uf 16v
                                        1x 10uf 450v

getting my 4700uf 10v caps to fit was fun... they were out of a failed recap (burnt trace) and i had to solder some jumper wire out of a dead psu to the leads to make them fit. not to worry, the same trick had been used on the 10uf 450v cap.

                                        again, thanks everell!!!!!!!!!!!!

one of the 3300uf caps had physical damage...

since i doubt TC has the last one on the list, i will have to go to digikey...

edit- topcat has them in 400V, close enough.

Glad you are enjoying those power supplies. I am sure you will get greater pleasure from the bright shiny blue psu than I, teenagers enjoy such things.

I can remember when I was a teenager in high school. I was looking for a ARC-5 receiver with which to get started in ham radio. I was having difficulty locating one. I had stopped by a hobby shop one afternoon after school and mentioned to the sales clerk that I was looking for an old military surplus ARC-5 receiver. He was an older man, and to my surprise said just a minute, and disappeared in the back for a few minutes. He came back with an ARC-5 in hand. Wow!........how much?????

Nothing, he said. Just put it to good use. Such events make a good and lasting impression on teenagers. Even helps improve respect for the older generation. So when you get older and become a grumpy old fart like pcbones, perhaps a teenager will cross your path and you will have an opportunity to give him one of those shiny things you just couldn't throw away.....and let it become a treasure for the teen.

                                            Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

Need help to solve some problems with this laptop.

After working in bed with it one night and heating up too much (probably the cause of this problems) the sata HDD OS windows froze
After restart the original Sata HDD was not recognized anymore (but works fine in other laptops or PCs)

Tried connecting other good Sata 2.5 HDDs but not one is working in this laptop anymore (not the original nor others)

Before this had happened I observed some other problems:
When I tried replacing original mecanical HDD with a SSD HDD could not get them...

Like the title says, I have a Pegatron M2N78-LA (HP P/N: 513430-002) motherboard out of an HP Pavilion PC. The motherboard hard-locks during POST when it gets to the part of trying to detect the SATA devices *only* if there is a SATA device (be it HDD or optical drive) connected to any of the SATA ports. I cannot enter BIOS or do anything when this occurs. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del cannot restart the system either. In fact, the keyboard locks up too (Num Lock status LED cannot be toggled anymore.). However, if I disconnect everything from the motherboard's SATA ports, the motherboard can POST successfully...

hello , i have a psu 450 zebronics (yes its bad crap) which used to work before with its own sata power cable ,but today its not able to power up harddrive efficiently with its own power sata cable , but when there is a connector which have a thick wire than the psu sata power cable wires - its powering up and working smooth , no problem yet .
i the voltages with multimeter shows 12 ,3.3 v , no problem , but hardrives powers well only with this thick wire sata power cable connector from psu power molex .
any explanation on this ?? thank you ,soon i am planning to buy some branded...
