Re: A lesson in power and efficiency.
Is it okay to change out the secondary diodes without messing with the pi filters?

Re: Finding replacement caps for FSP300-60GHSR
I live in the default country (USA).
I've decided to go with nichicon hm for the 2200uf and panasonic fr for the 1000uf.
I've considered HN/HZ but they stray too far from the original capacitor specs. Although...

Finding replacement caps for FSP300-60GHSR
FSP300-60GHSR - 300 Watt 80Plus SFX12V PSU
The secondary caps are all OST RLP.
7x 1000uf 16v 8x20mm
2x 2200uf 6.3v 8x21.5mm
They're custom sizes so the RLP series datasheet doesn't list them. The closest are RLP series in 10mm diameter.
The 16v cap has 1050mArms ripple with impedance of 0.068 @ 100KHz.
The 6.3v cap has 1220mArms ripple with impedance of 0.041 @ 100KHz.
I don't think it is possible to use 10mm diameter capacitors. Does anyone know...Last edited by ss627; 08-25-2011, 04:45 PM.

Is the ATX connector making proper connection with the motherboard?

Re: Do you want to learn how to build your own power supplies from scratch?
You can start building http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions/content.do?id=1331 or a 80 plus silver rated unit here http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions/content.do?id=16599.
I started designing the schematic/pcb a while ago but never finished due to calculating the costs. It would be cheaper if you scavenged some parts but I really doubt many people on here would be interested once they knew the total price of such a project. You can buy a 80 plus gold rated 750 watt seasonic...

Re: New Rubycon MBZ/MCZ 2010/2011 replacement
For me, they won't be missed as long as the polymer capacitor prices continue to trend down.

Re: Coolmax CX400B GI
Looks the same as my 2 broken coolmax cu-500b. I replaced every single cap and mov and it still blows fuses. I havent bothered to troubleshoot beyond that.

Re: Why does this Antec squeal
I still think you should put a small load on the PSU and plug it in with the cover off and press down on coils etc with a non conductive stick to see if the noise pitch changes. There is absolutely nothing that can go wrong unless you have a seizure and start poking fingers inside or put a prolonged heavy load on the PSU with no fan. You wont be touching anything inside except with a nonconductive stick.

Re: Why does this Antec squeal
Take the rubber eraser end of a pencil or any other suitable thing and press down on the coils to see if it stops the noise or changes pitch.

Re: Is all solder wick created equal?
I have yet to use a 'good enough for me' solder wick. I prefer various sized suckers, some extra solder and some flux for repairs.
After buying MULTIPLE wicks from ebay, radioshack, digikey and mouser, I've given up on these stupid things. With newer products using leadfree solder, all they did for me is soak up a pathetic amount of solder and fubar the plated holes.

Re: Relubing fans
I hate adda fans. While they look well built, I've had so many cheap sleeve fans that worked without noise issues for much longer. I tend to use a lot of the cheap yate loon and coolermaster fans since I haven't experienced a single problem with them so far.

Re: Relubing fans
I use mobil1 synthetic in a small glass syringe with a thin gauge needle. The control and amount you can drop oil into bearings is nicer than sprays. Unless the bearings are very gunked up due to cooked up factory lubricant, I haven't found it necessary to take most fans apart for a re-lube.
After the initial re-lube, I've had fans last another 1-2 years before needing another re-lube but at this point, I just discard the fan. I did find some fans where no amount of cleaning and re-lube would quiet them down even if they're very new. Thicker greases...

Re: Blown (FZ78 1500 6.3v) on XFX 8600 GT. What to buy?
2 of https://www.badcaps.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=40 and 1 of https://www.badcaps.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=48
If there are other capacitors of this type on the card, I would replace them even if they still look fine.Re: Blown (FZ78 1500 6.3v) on XFX 86...ts_id=48

Re: Atng
I find that there are better alternatives for the price. I have 2 CU-500B modular units which I think are built by ATNG.
I've recapped both units and one of them works perfectly but the other one stopped working after a thunderstorm. I've tried changing the fuse but it blew immediately upon power up. I don't know what else could be wrong with it [MOV?] or if its even worth trying to repair. Overall, I dislike the build quality. The pcb, parts and especially the housing reminds me of cheap retrofitted crapola supplies.
