Hi everyone, I´m new for this forum

I'm working on unlocking the BIOS password (lock code: 8FC8) on a Dell Latitude 5400, and I'm trying to do it myself. The motherboard model is LA-G891P REV 0.1.

I've purchased a few tools from AliExpress:
I downloaded AsProgrammer v2.1.0.13, installed the drivers, and confirmed that the CH341A shows up correctly in Device Manager.

However, when I connect the programmer to the chip, AsProgrammer shows:

                    SPI Flash ID (9F): 000000

Then it prompts me to “Search IC.” The problem is, my chip is a GD 25B256DYIG, and it does not appear in the list. I also tried the "Detect" button, but nothing happens.

I'm not sure what IC to select manually in AsProgrammer, or what I'm doing wrong.
Any help would be really appreciated.

                    Thanks in advance!

try an equivalent chip that you have in your database..

Hi again, and thanks for your help, Peste.

I chose a different compatible chip — the Winbond 25Q256 — which I saw is similar to the 25B256DYIG.
I managed to extract the BIOS, but I'm not sure if the dump was done correctly, because the file contains a lot of zeros and doesn't look like other BIOS dumps I've seen online.

Could someone please take a look and confirm if it was read properly? I just want to make sure I have a valid copy of the original (locked) BIOS so I can proceed with unlocking it.

                          Thanks a lot in advance!

Just looking at this you know your backup failed.
