I was afraid i did it wrong...

I have a Gigadevice 25B256DYIG bios chip and tried multiple versions of AsProgrammer and NeoProgrammer, but none has been able to properly detect the IC. This chip is also not an option to add manually.

What Ch341a programmer did everyone else use to pull the backup? nothing has worked so far. Thanks!

That's right, this chip, then the remaining problem is that you have to read the chip successfully. I don't use the CH341a programmer so I can't help you

You`re right it was the wrong chip,its the thunderbolt firmware,no wonder it compressed so much.I expected UC5 or UC6 would have been posted.

right, there are posts in this thread mentioning about UC5 and UC6 as markings for bios chipsets but ppl don't have the patience to read all posts of threads so they waste time desoldering and reading wrong chipsets ...

Still awaiting recommendations on a eeprom reader and software used to backup bios on Gigadevice 25B256DYIG chip. Anyone had any luck with a Ch341a?

Is it possible or easier to program a replacement eeprom chip from another manufacturer other than 25B256DYIG?

yes
use asprogrammer
let the programer select the chip by it self
it will pick if not exact but compatible one

you click on read and save it
make sure the chip is attached in a proper way other wise it will give you an error

I removed the UC5 chip and was able to read it, see attached

Details of the laptop are:

If you could remove the password that would be great!
