Re: Compaq cq 58 no power

have you checked on the board for 3.3v and 5v? if its there then the bios may be corrupted, you have to flash it with an external programmer. If its not there trace the power socket and the power ic. I think there is also a resistor on the board from the middle pin, you have to check from the schematic sometimes its resistance get high so the signal doesn't reach the kbc.

Re: Compaq cq 58 no power

I have a CQ58 by compaq here at the moment that has no power.... You plug the charger in.. The led at the charge port blinks 3 times then goes off....

It was brought to me by a friend to look at.. I had no power adapter that fit.. So I uses a butchered universal power adapter that I have and soldered on the leads to the correct terminals...
I now have 19V input power... I have no schematic so if anyone knows where I can get this I would be grateful...

I have traced the voltage on the charge circuit, that seems to get to the battery fine... Or almost.. As I still have a few points to check as of yet...

The problem seems to be on the underside of the board... I get 19v in from power jack, it hits first capacitor and then after that I have no voltage at the MOSFET....

More detailed explanation of my problem is the following laptop came in contact with liquid (juice to be more precise).

The laptop (cq58) does not power on I have not tested for voltages and such like just opened it up to visually inspect any problematic areas.

I have found a couple of areas on the underside of the processor that have burnt/black caps and an smd chip that looks a little charred.

The following caps are discoloured in the corresponding numbered area:

cs87,c1314,c1325, black chip seems to be labelled us415

Please any help on the values of the caps as I would like to repair thanks in advance

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                        Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                                        Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

                                        Compaq CQ58 with power issues
                                        by ianbak
I'm trying to fix a Compaq CQ58 with power issues. Initially I noticed that it would run on mains power but not on battery, but I have since discovered that it is actually extremely sensitive to the DC power input voltage.

For instance, if I set the charger input to the full 19.5V then everything is normal and it runs absolutely perfectly. However, if I reduce it even to 19.0V it will boot to BIOS level but then just switch off as soon as I put any load on the system (e.g. by running a memory diagnostic). Presumably this explains why it won't run at all on the 11.1V battery supply....

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                                        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
