Re: ASUS X550CL - Works only with battery ?

    1) ~19v is good for the mosfet voltage.

    2) what is the voltage on pin #4 of these mosfets?

    3) the resistance of the mosfets at OL means the resistance is higher than the scale on the meter on the scale. Switch to the next higher scale and confirm the resistance again. NO power while checking resistance. The mosfets appear to be ok.

    4) the charger IC pu8802 also drives the 2 local mosfets that charge the battery. Locate those mosfets. Measure the voltage on pin #4 (gate) of the 2 x battery charge mosfets.

What is the voltage of pin #4 of each battery charge mosfet if the battery is REMOVED?

What is voltage on pin #4 if battery is ATTACHED?

    5) Is the battery known to be good?

    6) measure the voltage on each pin of the battery connector WITH the ac adapter connected.

    7) when BOTH, ac adapter and battery are connected, does Windows show that the battery is charging? Do you see the battery charge graphic? You should see this. Then when the AC adapter is removed, the charging graphic should change to only the battery symbol. Confirm this.

    8) next, trace the battery charger IC to locate yet another mosfet...the Battery mosfet. Remove all power and the battery. Check the resistance of this battery mosfet like the others.

    9) finally, check the resistance of the 2 x battery charge mosfets with again, no power. Use 200k or higher scale. We need to confirm that none of these mosfets are defective.

Wow. Thanks for the heads up.
Yes, the battery is known to be good, and yes before it was charging just fine. That's why i managed to see that the laptop was working with battery.
But now it doesn't charge it.

Yes, the graphic changes , yes it shows it's" charging " even the symbol ,but it is stuck at 71.2% ,also the battery led light on the palmrest shows orange , and blinks , on - off , on -off but it doesn't charge

      #4 you mean of the PU8802 ?

      Also you mean to check the PQ8803 , mosfet ? GATE/SOURCE/DRAIN ?

but it is stuck at 71.2%
This value does not go down with normal use of the battery and also does not increase while the ac adapter is supposed to be charging ?

If you see the charging graphic then the charger IC is being instructed to perform this task - that is a good sign.

If you remove the ac adapter, the charging symbol changes to normal battery graphic ? That is expected and again a good sign. Confirm this.

We can check the mosfets after the SMBUS interface review...

Review immediately the voltage on pins # 8 & 9 of the charger IC PU8802.

You can measure at the points showing in the attachment. It is important that the charger IC be properly soldered so the connection is being made to this charger IC.

Next, remove all power & no battery. Meter in resistance mode.

        Check the resistance between (SCL) J6003 (pin # 5) & PSL8803 (pin # 1) - this should be ~330 ohms. Confirm it.

        Repeat with (SDA) J6003 (pin # 4) & PSL8802 (pin # 1) - should be ~330 ohms. Confirm it.

Is PD6001 soldered on your logic board ? This should be a 6 leg SMD ESD diode array component.

        Confirm the voltages on pins J6003, pin # 4 & 5.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
          by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Asus Vivobook M3502Q, no power through USB-C, works on battery.
          by Gregoriy Kim
          Hello everyone!

Need help with Asus Vivobook M3502Q, Ryzen 5.
First time working with failed power supply via USB-C ports. no schematics available.
          Symptoms:
suddenly turned off and does not turn on,

Upon first observation, turned out both CSD87501 mosfets had unsoldered due to overheating.
Manually charged battery and laptop works on battery

Soldered 2 new CSD87501 on board, but it didn't solve the issue.

there is 3.3V and 1.6V from TPS65994. and it talks to charger, so charger sends 20V, but no load. There is 20V...

Thinkpad W541 Works from the mains and charges the battery only when it is turned off
          by bykanovm
Lenovo Thinkpad W541 Wistron LKM-1 WS MB 12291-2 Works from the network and charges the battery only when it is turned off.
If you press the power button, the laptop turns on and works from the battery, but does not take power from the power supply.
If you boot into Windows and close the lid while working, thereby putting the laptop into sleep mode, the laptop begins to charge the battery.
even checked it this way: I bring a neodymium magnet to the Hall sensor during operation - the screen goes out and the battery starts charging.
Also, the laptop does not turn on without...

Asus TUF won’t run off battery
          by rob777
I have an Asus TUF machine that doesn't run off battery. Runs off charger ok, shows orange battery charging light and shows battery is at 96%. Battery voltage is less than 0.5v though. It had a short on the 20v rail from a dead cap. Pic attached. Removed cap and replaced a dc in mosfet. Machine now powers and runs fine.
I have also replaced all 3 battery mosfets with no change. The 1st battery mosfet has 20v going in. Pic attached.
Does it sound like a battery ic problem, it has bq2470. Not sure if I should replace that as well at this stage as I'd need to order one.
          Thanks....

ASUS UX303UB REV2.2 WORKS ONLY BATTERY
          by ivangserrano
          Hello

I have an ASUS UX303UB that only turns on with the battery connected, it doesn't turn on only with the charger connected.
With the battery and charger connected, the computer turns on but does not charge and I can see some consumption at the source, it seems to me that the charger is taking over.
In the work environment I can see that the battery is at 24% and does not charge or discharge.
I checked the 24780s load ic and I have the following voltages.
